Wolves, 21-12-18, PL (A)

Sitting pretty on top of the lge and still unbeaten but this game is very much a bannana skin and i say that because wolves have had some good results against the top teams this season.

From what i'm reading Milner is very hopeful of being fit so he's an option for RB but i'll put Clyne in as he done well against united, i'll put Lovren in as Matip is out longterm. I think the rest of the team picks itself really,

                                               Clyne   Lovren   VVD   Robertson

                                                  Shaqiri    Fabinho   Keita

                                                   Salah   Firmino   Mane

I think Keita needs plenty of game time as he's slightly lagging behind the likes of Fabinho and Shaqiri who are doing fantastic right now. I feel Keita will be a top player for us this season but he needs to be on the pitch as much as possible to get him up to speed. Best of luck RedMen.

  • That was a very difficult game we played especially against a harder team such as Wolves and the previous game against Manure was easy. Comparing the stats we had 36 shots last Sunday and last night was 15 shots for and 11 against. Wolves had great chances to score as well and there were some scary moments for us during our defensive area. Not to forget the weather was so bad and made it even more difficult to play.

Both goals were very well taken. The build up to our first goal with Fabinho’s one-two with Mane and back to Fabinho with the assist to Salah was inch perfect. Salah’s goal reminds me of a poacher’s instinct with that flick on outside his boot. VVD’s volley was perfect too and I am glad he has scored his first PL goal for us.

As you have mentioned (Uncle) we are definitely in the title race and now it has increase our chances even further because City stuttered today with a defeat against Palace and it’s probably result of the weekend and I saw the highlights earlier and Townsend (Palace) scored a cracking goal and it may be a contender for Goal of the Season. We lead the title race by four points by sitting on the summit for the Christmas/Holiday Season.

Next stop is at home to Newcastle, Anfield next Wednesday Boxing Day. I can’t remember have we ever beaten Newcastle under Rafa’s term? Anyway, you folks enjoy the holidays and make it a good one.
    • I was hoping Spurs would slip up but seeing them put six past Everton was a fair consolation. Merry Xmas.
      • I've always liked spurs, proper footballing team like ourselfs and to think they spent nothing last summer, amazing how well their doing, so long as they stay beneath us that's fine with me, haha. Merry Xmas.
        • Spurs exploited a poor Everton performance brilliantly but I think any of the top 6 could have scored a hat-full against the Toffees yesterday. I hope they play the same personnel and system when we travel to Goodison in 2019.
  • Well guy's, top of the tree at Xmas. Saw the first half and we pretty much dominated it, delighted for VVD to get his first lge goal for us, how immense has he been this season. Horrible conditions and yet we still pull of a performance like that, Salah getting better and better with each game, it's all roses right now and long may it continue.
    • They were some surprisingly delicate finishes from Salah and van Dijk, given it was nearly a monsoon. I thought we were a little bit too relaxed in the first half but things were visibly tighter after the break. I was eager to see how the midfield would work because I can't recall Fabinho, Henderson and Keita playing together this season. It ended up more like a midfield four with Keita on the left and Mane on the right with the centre two given the freedom to sit deep or move forward. The system seemed to bring the best out of Henderson and Fabinho, either could join the attack while the other covered and it meant neither was just sat deep all the time, which can look quite negative. I believe the team sitting at the top of the table at Christmas is statistically more likely to win the league than not win it but this current City team seems to nullify statistics. However, we're definately in the race for the title and at this stage that's all you can ask for.
    • Salah and Van Dijk were excellent and I thought Henderson and Firmino were also good. It was a tricky game played in atrocious conditions. The conditions did not excuse some sloppy passing in the first half that a more potent attack would have exploited but the second half was much better. I was a little disappointed we did not exploit the numerous breaks we had in the second half but Wolves defended those situations well. It's good to see Conor Coady doing so well at Wolves even though he didn't quite make it at Liverpool.
  • I agree with the back four and the front three, they seem the strongest available right now. I'm not sure about the midfield, that's a very attacking three to go up against a team that are in seventh for a reason, they've taken points off some big teams. I'd prefer to see one of Milner, Henderson or Wijnaldum in the midfield in case we have to dig deep at any stage.
  • The only change I would make from Warrior's team would be Henderson in place of Shaqiri which probably seems a bit negative but I think Shaqiri and Keita are competing for one position. I would save Shaqiri for the Newcastle game. I rate Wijnaldum ahead of Henderson and Milner at the moment but he has played a lot of football and this would be a good game to rest him. I agree it will be a tough game against the 7th placed team but confidence is high and we should come home with the points.

"I'm not convinced another central defender is a top priority though a replacement for Lovren would not go amiss.  More important is a full back especially as cover for Robertson.  Adam Lewis has been mentioned as possibly moving up from the U23's bu…"

I heard there is a debate on the question "Does LFC need another defender?"  My question is why is there a debate about an obvious need.  We needed one last summer when I brought up the fact that except for VVD, all our CBs can be considered walking…

"I also would have preferred Ajax as both teams don’t know each other and am very wary of Spurs. It took a last gasp own goal last time to win 2-1 and am sure they still smarting from that. It’s also Klopp’s 4th final as he lost the last 3 so the pre…"

There's been some subtle, but potentially important, rule changes since the last Champions League final. Each team gets to name a 23 man squad and they can pick their substitutes from any of the 12 players not chosen in the first 11. 3 substitutes…"
