Wolverhampton Wanderers 29-12-19 PL (H)

The previous game was fantastic with a great result of 4-0. This is our final game of 2019 and it is at home versus Wolves and yes they defeated city after coming back from 2-0 down and won it 3-2 and they are not to be taken lightly.

It appears that Henderson will be available for the game, I have no idea when OX returns and Fabinho, Matip and Lovern should return in February 2020. This should be an interesting team selection for this Sunday's game and my team for this one is:

Alisson

TAA - Gomez - VVD - Robertson

Keita - Henderson - Milner

Salah - Firmino - Mane

Keita has been playing very well as of late and hopefully he can get better with each upcoming games. The midfield could end up with Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum or Lallana may get thrown in at the starting 11. It has been announced that we will be wearing the FIFA Champions Badge as a one-off occasion in this encounter. Best of luck Redmen.

  • That was a real sluggish performance, are we starting to look tired? complete opposite to the leicester game but then we expected that. I thought Wolves deserved a point and i do feel for them a bit, not much mind, about the VAR decision that ruled out their goal. Technically it was offside but it's awful when it goes against you by centimeter's as we've experienced this season. We got the luck today and i'll take that all day long.
I think Klopp should give them the day off tomorrow to recharge their batteries somewhat, they certainly deserve it after the year they've just had.
    • I thought we played quite well in the first half, albeit not with the same intensity we showed at Leicester. We deserved to go in ahead at the break despite the close VAR decision that denied Wolves an equaliser. They came out in the second half feeling aggrieved and had a lot more possession but they only tested Alisson once. We began to look a bit jaded but with the help of the substitutes we clung on. Gomez and VanDijk deserve a lot of credit for our clean sheet even if VVD did make his annual error. Wolves would have deserved a point if they had scored but they hardly came close all game. I hope there is something left in the legs for Sheffield United.
      • We certainly seem to up our game when we play the top 6-7 teams which you dont mind so long as your beating the teams further down the table.
That Gomez/VVD partnership seems to be thriving again, not good news for Matip and Lovren but good healthy competition is great for the squad so no complaints there.
Do you know if Klopp gave them a rest yesterday or did they train as usual, I hope the former because like you said they did look tired in the 2nd half, surely a day off would be of more benefit to the player's.
    • It looked like all the travelling and frequent games finally caught up with the squad, there was little tempo and the passing in the final third just didn't click. Few of our players really stood out but I thought Gomez was good and Lallana made a lot of tackles. I have limited sympathy for Wolves, the call for their goal was extremely close but the truth is VAR got the decision right, as it did with our goal. What exactly are they complaining about? Yes, it takes too long to reach a verdict and there isn't enough communication with the players and the fans but VAR did get the decisions right in this instance so I'm not sure Wolves really have grounds for complaint. All the PL teams have been stung by VAR at some point this season, we definitely have, so I don't think the idea there's some kind of vendetta against Wolves really stacks up. On a more positive note for them I think they've been the first team at Anfield this season to successfully restrict our fullbacks, we had relatively few crosses from out wide and they ran our fullbacks ragged in the spaces either side of the penalty box.
      • Traore certainly ran rings around Robertson, for such a big lad he can move very quickly, wouldn't surprise me if he moved on in January or next summer.
  • The First 11: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson, Lallana, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mané
    • Pretty much as expected, although I thought one change might have been made in the front line. Shows how seriously Klopp is taking Wolves.
  • We are in a Thursday-Sunday-Thursday -Sunday sequence of games. It's like being back in the Europa League, something Wolves will be used to, except they had to play on Friday which could be to our advantage. The big question is how far will Klopp and Nuno rotate their squads? Liverpool do not have any options in defence except to rest one of the full backs and play Milner but I wouldn't want to see Milner up against Traore. Although Henderson is fit he could be the midfielder given a rest and replaced by Milner or Lallana. Up front Salah has played the most recently and Shaqiri could replace him. It's a shame we have so many injuries at this busy time but the squad's confidence is high and hopefully we can come through the period maintaining a big lead and look forward to having a full squad after the winter break barring any more significant injuries. Plus we had Minamino to look forward to. I don't think this afternoon's game will be as easy as Leicester but I would expect three points.
    • Totally forgot about Minamino coming in but maybe Klopp should look to get a defender in as well, one that can play along the back line would be ideal.
      • We have Nat Phillips coming back from loan, for next month at least, as cover, though he will probably return to Germany once Lovren and Matip are fit. We should be looking at Baracic of Rangers who would be excellent cover for Robertson at left back.

"You have to think of the implications of going out to Shrewsbury. Firstly, it would probably be the largest giant killing in recent history and it will be brought up in the media every time the FA Cup comes round. Secondly, those U23 players would b…"

"It's a complete mess all round. Klopp was sent a letter from the PL saying managers should respect the break and not play games during it, so what do the FA do - they arrange the FA Cup replays during the break. Completely idiotic. I can thus unders…"

"You could have Williams at right back, Larouci at left back, Jones in midfield and Elliott and Shaqiri as wide forwards. That would leave Hoever, Lallana, van den Berg, Chirivella and a selection of first teamers to come off the bench."
