WESTHAM, 04-01-19 (A) PL

Time for a trip down to london after a disappointing result against the foxes, imo anyway. Now for another mid table team we should be beating if we habour ambitions of winning this title. We have to beat those teams outside of the top 6, we can't afford to be dropping many more points against these mid to bottom of the table clubs, 5 points is nice but it's not a big margin, couple of draws for us and wins for city and that's wiped out, on to the team.

Looks like Milner will come back in at RB seen that Arnold is ruled out and what a blow that gomez will be out for another possibly 2 months, hopefully he'll be back by late march to help us over the line. I'll have Milner, Matip, VVD and Robertson at the back. Maybe hendo will move back to midfield and i'll have Fabinho and Wijnaldum in there as well, the usual 3 upfront.

                                            Milner   Matip   VVD   Robertson

                                                Hendo    Fabinho   Wijaldum

                                                  Salah     Firmino   Mane

Something along these lines. Think i've said before about Keita, i have a feeling it's not going to happen for him for whatever reason or at least not this season, it's taking too long for him to get up and running, he's had his chances but not taken them. Shaqiri as well is a bit hot and cold, definitely does better coming on from the bench so hence why i left him out. Like i said, we have to be winning these games to keep that gap open and the pressure on city. I must admit, i'm starting to worry about our lads mentality, of course they feel the pressure but they must handle it and thrive on the fact that we're in a great chance of ending our title drought, let's hope and pray they are mentaly strong and go all the way. Best of luck RedMen.

          • I'd forgotten Van Dijk is suspended against Bayern. I'm not sure a Lovren/Matip or Fabinho/Matip centreback pairing against Bayern fills me with masses of confidence, if I'm being totally honest. However, in European knock-out games miracles often happen so we may well pull something out of the bag.
    • City will go top on Wednesday night after they beat Everton, for me we've blown this title now, it's all about securing a top 4 finish. People will make excuses, injuries, trip to Dubai and so on, simple fact is we've bottled it.
      • I wouldn't go that far, there's still a lot of matches to go yet so things can still change. Most importantly we've got to resolve the mindset that seems to have crept into the team over the last six or so games. The situation is rescuable if changes happen quickly and City don't pull off into the distance.
        • We haven't been the same since city beat us, it's been going down hill since then. It's completely turned around in their favour and let's not discount spurs who are right in there as well and they don't even have Kane or Ali right now, fighting spirit that's called, something we're seriously lacking. Doubt has seeped in and is drowning us, slowly but surely, it can't be deny'd, for me it's obvious. I just don't see us turning this around, i don't see any determination in them, all i see is a team wilting under the pressure.
          • It's hard not to feel despondent after the last two performances but there are always ups and downs over a season (even City have experienced them). The key for me is getting some of the injured players back. I don't think we would have seen such a timid midfield performance if Wijnaldum and Henderson had been playing and Trent would have offered a lot more than Milner at right back both in defence and attack. In the end we were lucky to get a point. Hopefully we will be able to put out a stronger team against Bournemouth.
            • I watched the highlights this morning and I found myself following Keita for a while. He doesn't exactly pull out of tackles but he doesn't really commit to them either. More often than not when a West Ham player went in hard to win the ball he relinquished it rather easily. It was strange to watch, he just didn't look at ease with the physicality of the game. Of course, this meant we were turning over possession in the midfield quite often, something that wouldn't have happened if Wijnaldum and/or Henderson were playing. I can't believe Klopp will want to start Keita again against Bournemouth, hopefully Milner, Wijnaldum or Henderson will be fit to play because I think the lack of a commanding midfield is a big part of our problem.
  • I don't know how anyone else feels but I've got a creeping feeling that this West Ham game has become rather pivotal with regards to our title challenge following the weekend's results for City and Spurs. Those teams look like they're building momentum while ours ebbed slightly after the Leicester game. I feel like we need a solid win against West Ham to get the momentum going in the right direction again. I fear what a poor result at this stage would do psychologically, our biggest enemy now is doubt.
    • The pressure is on us big time for this game tomorrow night, it's been said the team is playing like their feeling the pressure and i have to agree. We need a strong convincing win just to send out a message and build confidence, we simply have to restore that 5 point lead, otherwise city could very well be back on top come wednesday night as we have to expect them to beat everton. As slur ajax fungison once said, it's sqeaky bum time.
      • I can understand Klopp wanting to minimise the external pressures on the squad but the brutal truth is that the team most likely to succeed is the one that's learnt to handle pressure, wherever it may come from. This is why City's prior experience of winning the title is a significant advantage. There's still a fair way to go in the season yet so Liverpool can't afford to crumble at this stage, and that's why I think it's important we put down a marker against West Ham.
        • If we are like this in February what will we be like in May! The momentum keeps swinging one way then the other. A good result tonight and it is going our way again. Anything less than a win and it is with City and even Spurs. In the end I feel a lot will come down to injuries. If we can avoid too many over the coming weeks we are in with a good chance but if we continue to lose players as we have over recent weeks we will struggle. Joe Gomez having to undergo surgery is a big blow but hopefully the surgery will sort the injury once and for all..

"With 3 games in 7 days coming up starting with Barca away I think there will be some changes though not to the front 3. I can see Joe Gomez getting a start to give Trent a rest and Fabinho should return if he recovers from his head injury. If we can…"

This game should be a formality but i still want to see our best 11 start, lets not take any chances at this stage of the run-in. Although Huddersfield are relegated they would love to bow out with us as a scalp so our best 11 to start with, hopeful…

"I feel the same mate, I really thought Spurs would at least get a draw but it wasn't to be, still a slight chance city could slip up but highly unlikely now, i feel our chance went with that Spurs result."

"United are all over the place, 100% not expecting them to do us any favours on wednesday night, instead i'm hoping for Rogers at Leicester or burnley can help us out. Convinced we'll win our last 3 games to do our part, just a crime we have to rely…"

"It's one of those games where all the logic says we can't lose it but this is football, so they say. I think we're in a bit of a groove now though, our mindset is not as fragile as it once was, so I think we'll get the job done. The above team is wh…"
