WESTHAM, 04-01-19 (A) PL

Time for a trip down to london after a disappointing result against the foxes, imo anyway. Now for another mid table team we should be beating if we habour ambitions of winning this title. We have to beat those teams outside of the top 6, we can't afford to be dropping many more points against these mid to bottom of the table clubs, 5 points is nice but it's not a big margin, couple of draws for us and wins for city and that's wiped out, on to the team.

Looks like Milner will come back in at RB seen that Arnold is ruled out and what a blow that gomez will be out for another possibly 2 months, hopefully he'll be back by late march to help us over the line. I'll have Milner, Matip, VVD and Robertson at the back. Maybe hendo will move back to midfield and i'll have Fabinho and Wijnaldum in there as well, the usual 3 upfront.

                                                             Alisson

                                            Milner   Matip   VVD   Robertson

                                                Hendo    Fabinho   Wijaldum

                                                  Salah     Firmino   Mane

Something along these lines. Think i've said before about Keita, i have a feeling it's not going to happen for him for whatever reason or at least not this season, it's taking too long for him to get up and running, he's had his chances but not taken them. Shaqiri as well is a bit hot and cold, definitely does better coming on from the bench so hence why i left him out. Like i said, we have to be winning these games to keep that gap open and the pressure on city. I must admit, i'm starting to worry about our lads mentality, of course they feel the pressure but they must handle it and thrive on the fact that we're in a great chance of ending our title drought, let's hope and pray they are mentaly strong and go all the way. Best of luck RedMen.

          • City scoring 100+ points last season has made me more nervous than I normally would be. They know how to handle being in the lead in the second half of the season and although they've dropped points up until now I can't help feeling they'll be more comfortable leading than chasing. The easiest way to not find out is to keep them behind us for as long as possible (easier said than done).
  • That's the team I would have chosen. It maybe lacks a bit of creativity in midfield but those 3 in the middle should be capable of winning the physical battle against the likes of Noble and thereby protecting the back 4. If necessary Klopp can bring on Shaqiri or Keita after an hour or so. I agree that Keita should be used as a sub at the moment. I haven't given up on him but it may be next season before he comes to terms with the PL and playing for a big club. West Ham are one of the least predictable teams but we have to assume that they will be up for this one. Nevertheless we have a good record at their place and it should be no different on Monday.
    • I'm not so confident about us winning the midfield battle now that Henderson and Wijnaldum are out and Keita and Lallana are in. The injuries just keep piling up though West Ham have a few of their own.
      • It seems the gods are working against us right now, we need the Lallana of 2-3 years ago and a big improvement from Keita, i'm feeling more nervous now about this game but still quietly confident our front 3 can do the biz.
      • Well, if Keita and Lallana wanted an opportunity to prove they can be starters they've just been given it. This could either be a disaster or someone will raise their game. I don't think I can watch...
        • Stating the obvious but we need our front 3 to be on their game as well as our back 4, think we can forget about the midfield tonight.
  • West Ham started the season poorly, then they got a lot better and lately they've been poor again. In theory we should be able to get a win here but with the way their season's been going I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled a decent performance out of somewhere. Having Milner back is a big plus (probably at right back), things always feel a bit more solid with him on the pitch. A midfield of Henderson, Fabinho and Wijnaldum is a decent call, they've all been in good form lately and Shaqiri seems more productive coming off the bench. Keita's a bit of a headache, on the one hand he needs game time but on the other hand it can't come at the cost of the team's performance if he isn't producing. I'd probably use him as a substitute until he shows a bit more progress. Van Dijk suggested after the Leicester game that the nervousness of the Anfield crowd may have transmitted to the players on the pitch. Well, if that was the case it won't be a problem at West Ham so I'm hoping for a better result.
    • I've always said about the crowd at Anfield and how big a difference they can make. It's horrible when they go silent and the ooh's and aa's start coming out and i've experienced guy's screaming and shouting abuse at the players and the players can hear this make no mistake about that. The crowd need to keep loud as much as possible all through the game, it makes a massive difference, cheering them on rather than shouting abuse and being quiet, the players react to all the emotions in the stands, it's only natural, the less pressure on them in the run in the better.
  • The squad depth isn’t there anymore. Klopp likes skating on thin ice
    • It's amazing, your going along very nicely, winning all your games and playing great football and then boom, 1 or 2 players fall injured and suddenly we have a mini crisis on our hands. We definitely need to be busy in this summers transfer market and a top class RB along with a top class LB must be the priority's, if Robertson was to get injured, god forbid, we would be stuck with Moreno and that for me is a nightmare scenario.

"The Dortmund game was an odd one for a couple of reasons. The pitch had just been laid and they strangely didn't water it enough so it was slow and with little bounce, conditions that worked against how we play. The Dortmund team put out a strong st…"

The new season is almost upon us and is no less welcome for the fact that football never actually went away over the summer.  Liverpool are yet to sign any senior players and this gives a chance for the youngsters to make a case for their involvemen…
