WEST HAM UNITED 24-02-20 PL (H)

It seems an age since our last PL home game against Southampton.  Tonight its the Hammers, who are in a spot of bother at the wrong end of the table.  They have some decent players but maybe not the sort who you would want fighting a relegation battle.  They also have Moyes as their manager which doesn't seem a good fit for a Club that used to be known for its good football.  Its only a few weeks since we played them away in a game when they parked the bus and seemed intent only on damage limitation.  It will be the same again tonight.  I saw a bit of their recent game against City and they sat very deep making it hard for City, who nevertheless found ways through their defence.  They only played with one attacker that evening, Antonio, who has only scored one goal this season!  Liverpools next few games are well spaced out and I don't see any need to rotate too heavily, apart from the Cup game at Chelsea.  The only question for me is who replaces Henderson - Keita or Oxlade Chamberlain.  My team would be:

Alisson

Trent Gomez VVD Robertson

Keita Fabinho Wijnaldum

Salah Firmino Mane

My only reason for putting Keita in ahead of Ox is that he needs game time more than Ox and this seems an ideal game to give him some.  I can't see any result other than a Liverpool win.  The only question for me is whether it will be another narrow one, with West Ham hard to break down, or an easy one, with our attackers exposing the Hammers' frailties.  I'm hoping for a reaction from the Athletico defeat and a strong performance to set us up for the next few matches.

  • I got the line-up right for once. Had the game been later in the season it would have been ideal to give Curtis Jones a first PL start. He's in great form for the U23s and scored an 8 minute hat-trick this afternoon against Sunderland. The first 2 in particular were outstanding goals. Hope he gets a chance against Chelsea.
  • The first 11 as predicted: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson, Keita, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mané. VVD is tonight's Captain.
  • That could be the actual line up for the first 11 unless the Gaffer puts Milner instead Keita or Wijnaldum. VVD will be wearing the armband tonight if Milner is not selected. The bottom line is the three points regardless what team is being put out.
  • I'd have Keita to start as well, like you say he needs time on the pitch, i hope he gets a good run now in the absence of Hendo, would also like to see Minamino get a good half hour here as well, another who needs more game time when possible.
Can only see one result here also and i'm hoping they spank them, nice run of games coming up and iv'e been saying for a while now that we need to flex our muscles and give someone a good going over score wise, if not tonight then hopefully during this run of very winnable games.
Looking for a really good performance and result tonight given the disappointment against Atletico.

"Henderson ran himself into the ground in that game. Those who keep going when you are 4-0 down are the true leaders. Maybe I should have given him a rest in my team above and started Fabinho instead, though I guess Hendo hates every minute he is n…"

"There's also the tricky issue of giving the minor players enough game time to qualify for a PL winners medal. It's a daft rule if you ask me but I doubt Klopp will want any players missing out."

"Do we go for the record of 100 plus points or start using the kids. I’m inclined to give game time to the those waiting to break in as there won’t be much of a break when the season starts again. To hell with trying to break records the long term is…"

Thank goodness the games are coming thick and fast and we can concentrate on Sunday's game against Villa rather than dwelling on that awful result yesterday.  A big reaction is required and I expect the players to be fired up for this one.  Having s…

"We must have been suffering a hangover from the celebrations but that's no excuse for our performance and if we were defeated by score lines such as 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 etc then it would have been acceptable because it would mean we did OK.
