Sheff united, 28-09-19, PL (A)

Quick one for you guys, whole changes here of course after our mid-week lge cup win. I think the team pretty much picks itself, not sure if that's a good or bad thing but at least we do have a very strong bench as well as starting 11.

                                                                     Adrian

                                                     Arnold     Matip    VVD     Robbo

                                                      Hendo    Fabinho   Wijnaldum

                                                          Salah     Firmino   Mane

More than enough to gain all 3 points here which i fully expect us to get, best of luck RedMen.

  • I expected us to win but boy do they make it hard for themselves at times. I'll take ugly wins all day long but like iv'e said before we won't always get away with it. I was in work so didn't see the game but i believe Wini had a stinker and Origi changed the game somewhat when he came on, delighted for him, iv'e always held out hope that Origi would come good and he's certainly doing well when he gets the chance, so happy we kept him and that he chose to stay.
16 unbeaten and 7 in a row this season, we can't complain, would be fantastic if Everton can do us some kind of favour right now, 1-1 as we speak, big Evertonian right now me, hahaha.
    • Wijnaldum was by no means our worst performer. Salah, Mane, Trent and Henderson were competing for that. Robertson was also poor going forward but made up for that with good defending. Origi looked really lively when he came on and if Salah in particular doesn't improve Origi could get a start in the near future. We mustn't forget that Salah and Mane had no close season after involvement in the later stages of the ACN so it is not surprising if they are a bit sluggish at the moment. That we can still win games shows the strength and mentality of the squad.
      • I didn't think Firmino was at his best either and it always has an effect on the team when he's below his normal level. It never ceases to surprise me how often our attacking players have a bit of a dip after they've been rested for one or two games, rarely do they come back and hit form straight away. We're very much a team that benefits from playing games regularly but, of course, that leaves Klopp with the risk of overplaying certain players.
  • The game was every bit as difficult as I expected, though it could have been much more straightforward if Mane and Salah hadn't missed three good chances between them. Sheffield also had chances but where they fall down is a lack of a top class striker or two. Otherwise they are a very decent outfit. This was a game we would have lost a couple of seasons ago so even though we were far from our best it shows the progress we have made. I thought VVD was superb, particularly his positioning, and without him I doubt we would have taken the points.
  • It's easy to say we played poorly but I think this was a game that was always going to be difficult for us. Granted, our forwards should have converted their chances (especially Mane) but when we're playing against a five man back line we just don't get much space and our full backs get squeezed out of the game. Sheffield had clearly set out to nullify Henderson, they planted numerous tackles on him so he eventually had to go off and that gave Klopp the opportunity to bring another forward on and change to 4-2-3-1. The goal was lucky but I think we'd earned that luck by maintaining pressure on them. These kind of games are a case of 'get in, get the points and get out' which is what we've done. I wouldn't spend too much time analysing the game, the result was the main the thing.
  • Seems you are both right going by the 1st half, surely our quality will see us through though.
  • This will not be an easy game. Sheffield have a hard working team and are well organised. It will be a bit like facing Stoke or West Brom in the past. However, our players will be refreshed after a week's rest and I would expect them to come through a tight game with all three points.
  • I think that will probably be the team that will start. This game has a bit of a 'banana skin' vibe about it as in if we get it right we could thrash them but if we misjudge them tactically, or we underestimate them, we could get egg on our faces. Chelsea suited our way of playing which was why is was a pretty open game, Sheffield United could well be a harder team to break down so patience will be needed.

"I have some sympathy for Lallana. We know Klopp whips up a very strong team spirit so to not have an outlet for that as a player, because you're not playing, must be highly frustrating. Lallana obviously wants to show his worth to his manager and hi…"

"I think it's just pure frustration at being so far down the pecking order, he always thought he was a far better player than he actually is, surprised he's still at the club to be honest."
