Redstar, 06-11-18, CL (A)

Back to CL action now after a bit of a disappointing result against arsenal after we were leading but still a point away to a reguvinated arsenal is not the end of the world.

We comfortably beat Redstar at anfield but we may not have it as easy away even though i do expect us to win. I think we'll see a few changes for this game with the likes of  Sturridge, Moreno and Keita Starting, we may even see Mignolet between the sticks, Could we even see Lovren and Matip as our central defence partnership, i'll put them in my team for the hell of it, lets give VVD and Gomez a rest. I'm going to keep Fabinho in, he clearly needs the game time. Shaqiri has been left behind for political reasons, Hendo and Clyne not onboard through injury and illness. My team for this game would be,

                                                           Mignolet

                                          Clyne    Matip   Lovren   Moreno

                                               Keita    Fabinho    Lallana

                                               Sturridge    Origi    Mane

Maybe not so many changes but we need to rotate a lot more than we have been, we have the squad to do so so why not use it, this team should be enough to beat Redstar, best of luck RedMen.

    • It looked like we thought they'd be the walkover they were at Anfield and while we eased off they stepped up. It wasn't just individuals either, the whole team - including the keeper - weren't up to the level expected. There was no intensity to our game when we didn't have the ball and that's unusual for a Klopp side. We had over twenty shots but they were mostly tame, something we've seen in other games, while I think they only had four shots and scored two of them. While Man City are clinical at the moment we're moving in the opposite direction and Klopp's got to get a grip on it fast. I can't help feeling the root cause to most of these issues is Klopp's switch to a more controlling style of play, probably to save energy but it seems to have blunted our edge.
  • We deserve to be two down, we've been rubbish.
  • A strong team Klopp has picked, Gomez, Fabinho and Firmino all get a rest, delighted to see Sturridge start.
  • This is a ‘must win’ game our strongest squad should start seeing that we have PSG away and Napoli next. Migs in goal will give me heart palpitations so heaven forbid he starts
    • I think most of my back 5 would give us all heart attacks Red but the rest i feel can do a job on RedStar, Klopp won't make so many changes though.
  • Just because we easily beat Red Star at Anfield does not mean a repeat is a certainty in Belgrade. They have a passionate crowd and will be fired up. I believe we should field the strongest available team. From Saturday's team I would only bring in Lovren for Trent and Sturridge for Firmino. Keita has missed a few weeks and can be used as a sub. I think we will win but it could be a close one. The big advantage we have is that we are used to facing high quality teams in the PL while Red Star have it easy in their league.
    • Klopp will most likely start most of our usual starting 11 but whatever happened to rotating players. Most of our first teamer's are way off their game because their playing every match, we need to rest players and have some trust in the fringe one's otherwise first teamer's will be worn out by xmas. All our games are big game now so we simply can't start the same 11 in them all. I think the team above or similar should be enough to get a victory. We have a big squad now so lets start using it
      • I think there's a case for giving more game time to Clyne (currently out with illness), Matip and Sturridge but I wouldn't trust Moreno in a game like this. Anyway Robertson was giving the news conference so he will be starting.
        • I wouldn't trust Moreno, period, haha. I was just thinking of giving Robertson a rest and put Moreno in as we don't have any other choice really but seems Robertson will start so we'll be spared the pain of watching Moreno, thankfully.
          • Losing against Napoli has put a bit more pressure on this fixture than we perhaps expected. If we lose two CL games in a row things could get a little too close for comfort in the group, that's why I think Klopp will make some changes but keep the core of the team the same. The stadium's got a reputation for being quite intimidating so maybe this isn't the game for the inexperienced, like Trent. I also think Firmino needs a rest, I believe he's the most played player this season, but I'm not sure if Klopp can afford to leave him out, especially with Shaqiri absent.

"I'm not in favour of treating the CL with less determination than the PL. City have a stronger squad than we have but but they are going for 4 competitions. If they can go for 4 surely we can cope with 2. (Spurs are also going for 2 and will almost…"

"The CL and PL are closely interconnected in that if you can get regular funding by competing well in the CL year after year you're far more likely to be able to recruit the players to consistently feature in the top four and at some point win the PL…"

"I agree a good run in the CL, if not winning it, helps to attract players and ups the revenue but i would say winning a prem Lge also has that affect and we haven't won one yet so that's why i say all out for the Lge title. The premier Lge being the…"
