Porto, 14-02-18 (A) CL

Could this be the biggest game of our season so far? I always say our next game is the biggest. Porto have an amazing home record as i'm sure you've all read about, runaway leaders in their lge this season and flying high in confidence but this is probably their toughest game yet this season. A great sign for us about the win against the saints is we weren't brilliant but still won comfortably away to one of our bogey teams, i'm sure all minds were on this game.

I dont see any reports of fresh injuries so we should be at full strenght, i dont forsee many changes from the team that beat the saints, maybe Lallana to start alongside Chamberlain and Hendo, i would bring in Lovren for Matip but other than these changes i think the team will look something like this,

                                                                      Karius

                                             Arnold      VVD       Lovren    Robertson

                                                                      Hendo

                                                       Chamberlain     Lallana

                                                      Salah       Firmino    Mane

I think this is near enough our best team right now, i know Hendo and Lallana haven't had much game time recently but i would rather have them in my side than Wijnaldum and Milner, one is too inconsistent and the other too slow although has CL experience so maybe Klopp might opt for Milner. Best of luck RedMen.

      • People tend to focus so much on Milner's age that they forget he's still a quality player. I think he must've covered every inch of that pitch, he's so fit, and his passing last night was as good as Coutinho's. I thought he was great.
    • This team selection is all about not conceding, I reckon, which is why Klopp's packed his midfield with players not afraid of a tackle. Wijnaldum has been quietly effective of late so it's just a case of him performing on the night. We've still got a very attacking front line so if we can find them with the ball we're still a threat.
  • The team is:

    Karius, TAA-VvD-Lovren-Robertson, Milner-Henderson-Wijnaldum, Salah-Firmino-Mane.

Doesn't look like Gomez is fit yet, otherwise he'd probably have been included judging by the kind of team Klopp has put out.
  • Given Porto's home record and the fact this is a two leg fixture I also think Klopp could go on the defensive. A nil-nil draw would be ok, a score draw would be good and a win would be great but what Klopp won't want is us conceding a high number in the first leg so I think defensive discipline will be key. My uneducated guess would be Karius, Gomez-VvD-Lovren-Robertson, Milner-Henderson-Wijnaldum, Salah-Firmino-Mane. Keep it all tight so we've got something to play for back at Anfield where we've got home advantage.
    • The away goals are so important, 0-0 would leave us walking on egg shells at anfield and with a very nervous crowd and players. We have to go for goals imo, if we can keep a clean sheet with a goal or two it would for a far more relaxed game at anfield, for me we must attack from the off, porto may not be expecting that.
      • With the players we have and the way we play we're still pretty attacking even when we're being more defensive than usual. I wouldn't be surprised to see Milner playing rather than AOC because Klopp quite often includes Milner in European matches, probably for his experience and level head.
  • That would be a decent team for the home leg but I think we need a midfield that is a bit more defensively minded for this one. Its a pity Can is suspended but I think Milner and Wijnaldum would be the best option this time. I agree Lovren for Matip and I believe Gomez may be fit so would put him ahead of TAA for his defensive ability with Trent maybe coming in for the home leg. I didn't realise until today that we have a 10 day break before our next game. This seems ridiculous when we were playing every 3 days over Christmas and New Year. The fixture list really needs sorting.
    • I would put Gomez in ahead of Arnold but i read that he's a doubt for this game so i went with Arnold. I think we need a more attacking team than you suggest as we know porto will come out attacking and this will suit us hence why i put Lallana and Chamberlain in our midfield.

"Agree, i'm sure Klopp is working on getting them top quality, experienced players in this summer, looks like Fekir is a done deal, i know nothing about him but everybody seems to be raving about him so him and Kieta could be a great start for us in…"

"Our bench wouldn't look too bad were it not for the injuries. However, even if everyone was fit we wouldn't have experienced cover for the front 3 or a really creative midfielder and these are priority for sorting in the close season."

"Hopefully next season our team won't be as straight forward to pick, we badly need a much better bench of which i'm sure Klopp is working on. I hope Madrid keep going with the disrespectful comments, it'll only add more fire in our players like you…"
