Porto, 14-02-18 (A) CL

Could this be the biggest game of our season so far? I always say our next game is the biggest. Porto have an amazing home record as i'm sure you've all read about, runaway leaders in their lge this season and flying high in confidence but this is probably their toughest game yet this season. A great sign for us about the win against the saints is we weren't brilliant but still won comfortably away to one of our bogey teams, i'm sure all minds were on this game.

I dont see any reports of fresh injuries so we should be at full strenght, i dont forsee many changes from the team that beat the saints, maybe Lallana to start alongside Chamberlain and Hendo, i would bring in Lovren for Matip but other than these changes i think the team will look something like this,

                                                                      Karius

                                             Arnold      VVD       Lovren    Robertson

                                                                      Hendo

                                                       Chamberlain     Lallana

                                                      Salah       Firmino    Mane

I think this is near enough our best team right now, i know Hendo and Lallana haven't had much game time recently but i would rather have them in my side than Wijnaldum and Milner, one is too inconsistent and the other too slow although has CL experience so maybe Klopp might opt for Milner. Best of luck RedMen.

  • It's a great result and should see us into the quarter finals, did we even get out of 3rd gear, Hendo and Milner were excellent as was Robertson. When we see results like this we ask ourselves how in gods name did swansea and westbrom beat us, very frustrating and until we can eradicate those type of results there will always be that doubt but lets just enjoy tonight and hope for many more like it.
  • This is absolutely excellent! 5-0. Mane Hattrick. Salah scored his 30th. Firmino scored. This can allow us to rotate in the second leg if needed and rest players in order to focus on the league games. We have a 10 day break which I'm not thrilled about as we very often drop points and put in a lethargic performance when there's a break. West Ham are not in the best form but we need to keep winning to keep pressure on teams around us. Let's see out the second leg at Anfield and look forward to a CL quarter final!
    • I think we can be very confident of winning our next 3 games which are all at home against westham, newcastle and porto, can't wait for our next away game, Manure.
  • So happy Mane got a hat-trick, hopefully that will get the goals flowing in the league now. Milner, and in fact the whole midfield, was so dominant, our defence only had a handful of dangerous situations to deal with. Klopp got his selection and tactics spot on and the players performed to the right level. As good as you can ask for from a European away leg.
    • That should kickstart Mane's season and what a time for that to happen, the run-in. His confidence will have been boosted 100% after tonight and that's all it's been with him, confidence i feel, i'm not having all this talk he's been off form because of what Salah and Firmino have been doing, part of the reason maybe but certainly not all of it, he'd be an extremely vain man if he was jealous of his teammates, i can only think of one player who would be that vain and he used to play for manure.
      • The one thing I liked most was Mane's third goal. He could've passed to a better placed player as he still had the keeper to beat but instead he took on the responsibility and smashed the ball home himself. Had that been earlier in the season he would've either passed the ball or sent it over the bar. The fact he felt confident enough to wallop the ball from outside the area, on target, shows how much more confident he was feeling at that point. Let's hope he carries that confidence into the Premier League.
  • Going good so far. 2-0 at halftime. I'm missing the game but hopefully we keep them out and maybe add another goal but I would snatch you hand off to take a 2-0 lead to Anfield!
    • That was a near perfect first half for a European game, I'm fully expecting us to concede five in the second half to return us to Liverpool normality.
  • Great shout Uncle/Huytonian on the Milner/Wijnaldum midfield, we know Milner will be solid but Wijnaldum worries me, his recent form though gives hope he'll have a good game.
    • I thought thee Milner/Wijnaldum combination would make us more solid in midfield but what surprised me was how good those two were going forward.as well. Possibly their best games for Liverpool. Also how good is Andy Robertson! Is there a better left back in the PL? I can't think of one especially since he has got his crosses back on track.

"Agree, i'm sure Klopp is working on getting them top quality, experienced players in this summer, looks like Fekir is a done deal, i know nothing about him but everybody seems to be raving about him so him and Kieta could be a great start for us in…"

"Our bench wouldn't look too bad were it not for the injuries. However, even if everyone was fit we wouldn't have experienced cover for the front 3 or a really creative midfielder and these are priority for sorting in the close season."

"Hopefully next season our team won't be as straight forward to pick, we badly need a much better bench of which i'm sure Klopp is working on. I hope Madrid keep going with the disrespectful comments, it'll only add more fire in our players like you…"

"I think your team is a certainty barring any last minute injuries. The noises coming out of Madrid are very disrespectful and hopefully this will fire us up even more than normal in a big match. Madrid will be the favourites and rightly so but on ou…"

Quick word about a program that's on tonight, channel 4 at 10clock, a documentary on Salah, his upbringing in Egypt and his football career, should be facinating.
