Napoli, 11-12-18, CL, (H)

Great to be looking down on all the other teams in the lge but i'm far from getting carried away, let's enjoy it for now, meanwhile we have a vital CL game ahead. It's all or nothing for us now and i'm very thankful this game is at anfield as i believe the amazing european night atmosphere will pull us through.

I think the team for this game almost picks itself and i don't think it will be too far from the team that played against bournemouth. Although i don't rate Matip he did play well on saturday and seen we only have Lovren as the other option i'm going to stick with him for this game even though i'm not sure of Lovrens fitness right now. I'm also going to stick with Milner at RB, we need his experience in such a big game. Our midfied Should definitely have Keita, Fabinho and Shaqiri imo, all played very well on saturday and although Shaqiri played upfront i think Klopp might go with our regular 3 for this game and push Shaqiri back into midfield. My team would be,

                                                              Alisson

                                             Milner    Matip   VVD   Robertson

                                                Shaqiri    Fabinho   Keita

                                                 Salah     Firmino    Mane

It's the same lineup as against bournemouth so Klopp may make one or two changes here, he may start Arnold and Hendo and drop Milner and either Shaqiri/Fabinho but for me this team will beat Napoli, make the changes against manure who i'm sure we'll beat as well. Best of luck RedMen.

  • We now know who Liverpool could draw in the next round. We have to play a group winner because we came second but we can't play a team from the same country, so Man City is out, and we can't play PSG who won our group. That means the options are:

    Borussia Dortmund

    Barcelona

    Porto

    Bayern Munich

    Real Madrid

    Juventus

The obvious picks for us would be Porto or Dortmund but Bayern wouldn't be a bad draw either, they're an aging squad.
    • It just gets easier so, haha. I'm sure none of those teams will fancy drawing us, this is where the tournament really hots up, can't wait to see who we get in the next round.
  • I have to say, Matip had a great game and against bournemouth, eating some humble pie i am but of course i'm very happy to. Hopefully he can keep up these performances for the rest of the season and proves me wrong.
I thought it was a cracking game, we rarely do thing's the eas yway and it should have been a much more comfortable night but we're through and that's all that matters. Well done to spurs as well by the way, great result for them.
    • Yes an outstanding game and a great performance against a combined team of Napoli and the ref. We should have wrapped it up long before that save by Alisson at the end but we were horribly wasteful after great approach play. Mane should have had 3 in the second half, hopefully he was saving them for United on Sunday. Well done the U19's too. A much more comfortable 5-0 for them over the young Napoli, which again should have been many more but for poor finishing. Great goals by Glatzel and Duncan though.
  • Really happy with the first half, one foot in the next round, more of the same in the 2nd half please.
  • I hope I'm wrong but I'm not too confident about this game. I just feel that our concentration this season has been on the PL and that we haven't really got going in the CL despite our early win over PSG. We have gone through before in similar situations (e.g. Olympiakos) but Napoli are a very strong team. We will need to be at our best and have that little bit of luck that every team needs in a close encounter. Good luck to the Reds and also to the U19's who need to match PSG's result to progress automatically in their mini-CL.
  • Klopp has said he will be making 'tactical changes' against Napoli so I'd expect the team to be more compact than against Bournemouth. It's going to be a difficult balance to get right - he's knows we have to score but if we're too open and go behind we're looking at the Europa League. I would go for two holding midfielders but we're lucky in that we've got a number of midfielders who can play in both DM and AM roles depending on what the game requires. I'd put money on either Henderson or Milner starting and I wouldn't be surprised to see Wijnaldum too. I think Alexander-Arnold will play but when it comes to centrebacks I've got a feeling Klopp will go for Lovren to partner Van Dijlk. The usual three will probably start up front but I'm not sure whether it'll be Keita or Shaqiri behind them, it's a tough call.
  • It's good to have a few options. I would go with Alexander-Arnold at right back for his greater speed over Milner. I'd also go for the double pivot which would mean two of Henderson, Fabinho and Wijnaldum. I would play Fabinho but I suspect the other two may play after being rested recently. Then it is a choice between Keita and Shaqiri to play with Firmino behind Salah. I think I would go with Keita to allow Mane to play on his favoured right but that's a tight call.

"I'm happy with the white second strip.  White was the traditional colour back in the 60's and 70's, though I did like the yellow pinstripe that folowed.  I'm not sure about the dark blue shorts though.  I would prefer all white.  The third kit gives…"
