Man City 10-11-19 (H)

This is probably the biggest game of the season (Part 1) on Sunday between the top two teams fighting for the title and a must win game for us to increase the points score to 9. The team selection is going be a nightmare to find the right balance especially when it comes to midfield because they may use a 3-5-2 (due to defensive injuries) system against us. If Klopp goes for the 4-3-3 formation then they will have 2 extra midfielders more than us but their attack and defence will be short one in each area, so we can use this as an advantage in our favour.

Our recent victory over KRC Genk was very narrow and we had so many chances to make the score larger than 2-1 but they used a 3-5-2 system against us for which it almost worked for them but we held it out to win the game. So it’s possible Man City will use the same system.  Past week Pep has been playing mind games related to Mane’s diving and I hope our Gaffer isn’t going to fall for this one.

I do worry about our defence because of we’re leaking goals easily and I think the last clean sheet was against Sheffield United which was sometime in September  I won’t put Lovern in because he’s too slow when it comes to their pacey forwards and I’m not so sure about adding Henderson to the starting 11. We have to find the right balance between the defence and midfield. Here’s my line up for this game.

Alisson

Arnold - Gomez - VVD - Robertson

Milner - Fabinho - Oxlade-Chamberlain

Mane - Firmino - Salah

This could be an open or cagey game between the two teams on Sunday and best of luck Redmen.

  • I honestly have no idea how this game will pan out. Both sides can get goals but both sides can leak goals too. Throw VAR into the equation and literally anything could happen. I think Klopp will probably play his big game team, including Henderson and Lovren, because he'll want to restrict City's midfield and so the triumvirate of Henderson, Fabinho and Wijnaldum will start, I expect. I also think Klopp will like the fact he can throw Ox on at some point if we need someone to change the direction of the game so I see him starting on the bench alongside Origi and Milner, two other influential subs.

The tactical side of the game is where the fireworks might occur. Klopp is usually quite conservative in that he doesn't really deviate from a small selection of formations so the question will be whether he does what Pep expects him to do or whether he throws a curveball. Likewise, Pep could well throw the curveball, either out of choice or due to injuries. I think the team that manages to be the most adaptable will be victorious.

As with all big games, though, it's all about players performing to their potential on the day. The team will have a very vocal Anfield crowd behind them so it's up to them to produce the goods, there's no getting away from it. If one of our front three has an off day we probably won't win, this is a match where our front line needs to be firing as I can't envisage they'll be getting a lot of chances.
  • I think it will be a fascinating game tactically, especially as to what formation Pep will play. I have seen speculation about 3-5-2 4-3-3 and just about every possibility between. I can't see Klopp diverging from his go to team for big matches, with Lovren at the back and Henderson, Fabinho and Wijnaldum in midfield, though Ox should come on at some stage. I take the point about Gomez being quicker than Lovren, but for me he is not yet fully back to form since his bad injury. City's midfield has the edge on creativity but hopefully ours can nullify them. Though the tactical battle is important, in the end the team that takes its chances will win. Liverpool have been wasteful in front of goal recently so we will have to hope that this is the match where we become clinical again.

"I'd feel pretty aggrieved if I was Brewster and I wasn't back at Anfield next season. If there's one thing I don't like about the loan system is that it's too often used as a shop window rather than a way for players to improve their skills and retu…"

"I agree about Origi. He can make vital contributions but all to often he is anonymous like yesterday. Watching Brewster earlier for Swansea, I feel he offers a lot more threat even though he is a very raw talent. 7 goals in his first 15 Champions…"

"I'm not a fan of having both Firmino and Henderson on the bench together, unless forced. They're the ones that create the most in that area between the centre circle and the penalty box, when both are missing it's very noticeable. Keita was alright,…"

"I prefer if we went for the 100 points record. Reina will start against us today.

Our First Team: Alisson - Alexander-Arnold - Gomez - van Dijk - Robertson - Oxlade-Chamberlain - Fabinho - Keita - Salah - Origi - Mané"

"There's also the tricky issue of giving the minor players enough game time to qualify for a PL winners medal. It's a daft rule if you ask me but I doubt Klopp will want any players missing out."
