Fulham, 17-03-19, PL (A)

This is almost a guarenteed 3points, can never be sure but very confident of a win here. Think we'll see Fabinho back from the start alongside Wijaldum and Milner, rest of the team picks itself.

                                                           Alisson

                                             Arnold   Matip  VVD  Robbo

                                            Wijnaldum   Fabinho  Lallana

                                               Salah   Firmino   Mane

Would love to see Salah get a goal before the inter break, i'd like to see Shaqiri get some game time, not sure what he has to do to be honest, some rumours of a rift between him and Klopp but who knows. Best of luck RedMen.

  • This was one of those games when we were comfortably in control and cruising but failed to get the second goal and then got sloppy and conceded a goal that involved three mistakes. Thankfully Milner's penalty rescued the points and had Salah been on his game we would have ended the match more comfortably. I think the lethargic performance was partly the result of the mid-week exertions in Munich. The other teams that played in Europe last week were also below par. City only won at Championship Swansea with goals that VAR would have ruled out while Chelsea went down 2-0 at Everton who hadn't beaten a top 6 team since Biblical times. Great credit to Mane for keeping the goals going while Salah is on his goalless streak. Maybe his rest during the international break will get Salah firing again.
    • Yeah, the game certainly had that 'after playing in Europe' feel to it.
  • I was doing some work at home so I planned on listening to the game on the radio. I then got a call from my technically illiterate Liverpool supporting mother - 'I've managed to get the game on the telly, will you watch it with me?' Considering my mother has neither Sky or BT I went over to make sure she hadn't accidentally hacked into something she shouldn't have (turns out if you follow the instructions on a NOW TV box you can get a day pass for Sky). To cut a long story short, I managed to see the game in the end when I was planning to listen to it.

From the start the tempo was lethargic, the commentator said it was like a training match and he was pretty much right. What was frustrating was that whenever Liverpool injected a bit of pace, like with the Mane goal, Fulham looked fragile. Liverpool had so much possession but, to be honest, they didn't trouble the Fulham keeper much at all, they certainly should've troubled him more. I wasn't that surprised when the mistake came for the Fulham goal, it was one of those games where attention levels and communication wasn't quite where it should be. I don't think you can single out one of Milner, Van Dijk or Alisson to blame, it was rather a collective mess. As has been the case so often this season it was the industry of Mane that saved us because I was questioning whether we'd be able to get a goal back in the time left, considering how poor we'd been, and then, thankfully, he won that penalty. Milner showed he has nerves of steel given how important that penalty could be.

We won and got the three points so no damage done but it could've easily been different. It just goes to show you if you're not on your game by just one or two percent in the Premier League you risk even the poorer teams taking points off you. I must say, though, if Mane doesn't get multiple awards at the end of season players awards bash he should move to another club because this squad owe him an awful lot for keeping them in the chase for the title. Van Dijk and Salah may get the plaudits but it's Mane, by and large, who is consistently getting the points.
    • It's rare i get to see a game these day's but i caught this one and i thought we put in a bang average performance with some good moments. Thank god for the pen otherwise we could easily have dropped two points here and maybe kissed goodbye to our hopes. Mane is on fire thankfully, i think Salah is playing well he's just not scoring which i suppose is what he should be doing but he's actually playing well so hopefully he finds those goals that go on to win us this title.
      • I agree with you on Salah. Of course, when he was at Roma his job was far more about supplying the front players so it's pretty natural for him to switch role to being the provider when he's not in the goals.
  • Just going to make a slight adjustment to the team which i think makes sense, i'll take Milner out and put Lallana in, it seems Mane could be a doubt as well but i'll leave him in. Lallana looked very sharp recently and with Milners aging legs this switch makes sense to me.
  • We can forget our big result against Bayern because it’s not important anymore. This game against Fulham is number 31 and Man City will have a game in hand due to their FA Cup tie today which turned out to be a shambles with the officiating errors. The bottom line is we have to win and if we screw this up and then its one point behind and they have a game in hand. So we better win this one on Sunday.
  • There is a very real possibility City could win all of their remaining games, their ability to score is much greater than the likelihood of them conceding at the moment, which means if we're going to at least stand a chance of winning the league we have to be doing similar. Liverpool have to go at Fulham like they're playing against City because if they think 'it's just bottom of the table Fulham' they could end up coming unstuck. We should easily have the quality to beat them - but then we said that about Leicester, West Ham and Everton - so this will be more about attitude than ability.
    • Totally agree and i by no means underestimate Fulham, like you said, it's all about attitude, we most certainly are the far superior team but have they got the right mentality for these games? they've dropped points already against these kind of team so that has to change quick smart if we're to stand any chance.
P.S, City will drop points i'm sure, question is can we capitalise on it, big ? over that i'm afraid to say.
      • I hope City do drop points, something which may happen as they get to the sharp end of the competitions they're still in, but if you go through their remaining league games one by one and ask yourself the likely winner of each it's not that hard to say that, based on current form, City could quite reasonably win them all. Of course, I'm praying that doesn't happen but I can't see Liverpool getting more than one more chance to pass them, if that, so these remaining games against the 'easy' teams may be as important as the games against the 'big' teams.

"It's one of those games where all the logic says we can't lose it but this is football, so they say. I think we're in a bit of a groove now though, our mindset is not as fragile as it once was, so I think we'll get the job done. The above team is wh…"

"We've got a better chance against this Barcelona team than those of previous seasons. Suarez and Coutinho aren't exactly in top form so that's a major part of their attack that can at least be considered beatable. With the exception of Messi there a…"
