Fulham, 11-11-18, PL (H)

I don't think i need to say anything about tuesday night's game so i won't. I'm hoping it's a good thing that we have the team bottom of the Lge up next so it should be a great chance to bounce straight back with a good result/performance. Let's get onto the team.

4 of the back 5 picks itself but what about Arnold now that he's in a dip of form, is there a case for giving Clyne a start here? possibly. The midfield as usual will always throw up a debate so here's one for you, have we seen a midfield of Shaqiri, Fabinho and Keita yet, i can't recall but that's my midfield for this game. Klopp needs to start starting Shaqiri, we know what we'll get from him, creativity and that's what we've been lacking imo. We also need to get Keita up and running, another creative player who's top quality, Fabinho showed his best form to date against the lesser teams, was awful against arsenal but we're playing fulham so he should be alright, needs to adapt quickly to the PL so he starts here for me, from 3 as usual picks itself.

                                                      Alisson

                                        Clyne    Gomez  VVD   Robertson

                                             Shaqiri    Fabinho   Keita

                                              Salah    Firmino   Mane

Not sure Klopp will start Keita who's just coming back of an injury but why not, i always say if a player is fit enough to be on the bench then he's fit enough to start, give him an hour and then make the change, like i said earlier we need to get him going which means game time, he's fit so start him, i have a feeling hendo might come back in though. Best of luck RedMen.

  • I thought we left ourselves a bit exposed to their counter attacks in the first half. In the second half they lost heart after we scored a second and were just intent on damage limitation which I guess they achieved. Again we did just enough without ever reaching our attacking standards of last year. Firmino's form is becoming a concern and he is the player that makes us tick gong forward. At least Shaqiri is proving to be a real gem. I couldn't understand why Keita was only brought on in added time. Surely he could have come on earlier rather than Milner and would have then had a few more touches.
    • Ridiculous bringing a player on for the last moments of a game, i'm sure Keita was impressed. Subs should be made at the latest on the 70th minute in order to give a player time to adjust to the flow of the game, unless it's a forced sub due to injury.
  • I thought it was a bit of a mixed bag. One big positive is that Salah is looking more like the player we know, he seems to be making better decisions now. Robertson was fantastic and although Trent isn't at his best he was showing moments of talent. Shakiri is fast becoming a Coutinho-like figure in that he supplies quality balls to the other attackers while being a top finisher himself (not many would finish with a volley from such a long pass). Alisson did well again (even if the ball was still moving when he took the freekick that led to Salah's goal). On the down side, the defence wasn't as on form as usual, Fulham had some decent chances that on another day could've cost us. The freekicks we took were awful, so many went striaght into the wall. However, a win is a win and there were enough good moments to suggest we seem to be going in the right direction with regard to performance.
  • To me it was a correct call to have cancelled their goal as offside. Before the cross they had 3 players offside and after the cross that leads to the goal they had 3 more players offside... technically they had 6 players offside. The officials made the correct decision. 14 seconds later Salah scored.

I was so impressed how Alisson reacted so quickly when he took advantage of the situation due to being ruled offside, then passed the ball to TAA and he provided the assist to Salah for his goal. Alisson is sure a top keeper like a cat catching the mouse or bird with instincts and he must have read the game quickly at the point when he saw the positions from TAA to Salah. To me I think this is one of our best goals this season.

The 2-0 result wasn't convincing and we could have won by more but the three points count the most. Shaqiri was a starter in today’s game and is an excellent dead ball specialist. Shouldn't he be taking the free kicks instead of TAA and Salah?

Anyway those dreaded Internationals are coming up with a silly competition such as the Nations League. Hopefully our players will come back with no injuries and next stop is in London against Watford November 24th.
    • Fulham game was not normal for us. We played badly and they played well. Look at the results last weekend - no team is going to lay down for a league leader anymore, expect this type of game all season. Klopp playing around with the team's shape has caused our flow to sputter and it will take a while to get it back in gear. Got to go now, miss posting more often but got to keep blood pressure down. See ya YNWA!
  • I haven't seen the game but a better performance from what i'm reading. I wanted to see more goals to be honest but 3 points is 3 points no matter how you get them so happy with that. Now for another bloody international break!
  • 73 percent possession and only 2 goals. That could have been better.
    • I agree Red, we have to be scoring more goal against the likes of Fulham, this season's winners could very well be on goal difference and city are running away with that.
  • So Klopp is keeping faith in Arnold, interesting, delighted to see Fabinho and especially my boy Shaqiri start, very strong line-up, i fully expect all 3 points here, a comfortable afternoon for the reds i feel.
    • Nice goal by Shaq, I suppose Milner replaced him to see the game out am disappointed with that sub as he needs to finish a game for his own good feeling

"I'm not convinced another central defender is a top priority though a replacement for Lovren would not go amiss.  More important is a full back especially as cover for Robertson.  Adam Lewis has been mentioned as possibly moving up from the U23's bu…"

I heard there is a debate on the question "Does LFC need another defender?"  My question is why is there a debate about an obvious need.  We needed one last summer when I brought up the fact that except for VVD, all our CBs can be considered walking…

"I also would have preferred Ajax as both teams don’t know each other and am very wary of Spurs. It took a last gasp own goal last time to win 2-1 and am sure they still smarting from that. It’s also Klopp’s 4th final as he lost the last 3 so the pre…"

There's been some subtle, but potentially important, rule changes since the last Champions League final. Each team gets to name a 23 man squad and they can pick their substitutes from any of the 12 players not chosen in the first 11. 3 substitutes…"
