Everton, 06-01-18 (H) FA Cup

After a very nice win against Burnley how's about this for a break from Lge action. These are the games the city comes alive for, it'll be blue and red everywhere, i've yet to experience a derby game but one day i will, anyway, onto the team.

I can't find any updates on the fitness of Coutinho and Salah so if any of you can please let us know, i'll put them in my team anyway. I think the back 4 should be the same as against burnley, although i think Gomez will partner VVD in the future he has been making some big mistakes lately that have been costing us goals so maybe just take him out for this game and give him a break. Lallana being back is great and should start here alongside Can and Coutinho with the usual 3 upfront, my team for this game would be,

                                                                      Karius

                                                   Arnold   Klavan  Lovren   Robertson

                                                      Milner     Can    Lallana

                                                   Chamberlain     Firmino    Mane

As i said, not sure about the fitness of some players so the team might look a lot different on friday night but i feel very confident now no matter who plays such is our good run of form lately. Really looking forward to this game, should be a cracking atmosphere, derby cup games are always amazing, best of luck RedMen.

  • It was a good job we scored from a penalty and a corner because our passing and shooting in the final third was pretty poor throughout the match, so much was wide and overhit. Our full backs worked really hard and unsurprisingly Gomez started to flounder before he was taken off. Lallana showed he just isn't ready to start yet, he looked out of sorts from the off. AOC put in a good shift and he looks good at picking out VvD on corners and free kicks. Mane did well considering all the travelling he's been doing. Firmino put in his usual shift but couldn't quite click in the same way he does with Salah and Coutinho. I don't blame him for being annoyed when Holgate pushed him into the crowd (apparently Firmino ran to Holgate and said something along the lines of 'You are crazy, you son of a bitch' in Portuguese, nothing worse). I thought Klopp was very brave playing VvD, even if it did pay off. He's undoubtedly got a presence on the pitch, he organises those around him and he's a useful target in the box. Finally, can we put an end to the debate over whether Karius is better than Mignolet - Karius just looks too lethargic, he comes for balls too late (frightening his defenders) and VvD was having to tell him where he wanted him when it should really be the other way around.
    • I agree with your analysis Uncle. Gomez was excellent in the first half but he began to tire in the second and it was right to take him off. I thought Robertson was excellent up against the dangerous Bolasie. I knew he would be good for us going forward but was less sure of his defensive capability but he showed both in his man to man work and his positioning that he is more than capable in that department. I would say he is now ahead of Moreno even though the latter has done well this season. I'm not convinced by Karius and would like to see a new keeper to replace him and Mignolet but it has to be someone top class as Mignolet is a decent keeper if not in the elite bracket.
  • Thought Robertson and Mane were excellent, also Gomez but still making some mistakes. What a start to VVD's LFC career, couldn't ask for better. Hope to see Klopp pairing VVD and Gomez as our future CB pairing and have Klavan, Matip, who i thought was awful tonight, and Lovren as back ups.
On a side note, can't get my head around sammy lee being assistant coach at Everton, just doesn't look right and alongside big fat sam which makes it even worse.
  • That's a monster off Vrigll`s back. You can say the price tag is paid. Must admiit was gobsmacked when he started. What a dream debut
  • So, VVD starts, very interesting, a pleasant surprise, even without Salah and Coutinho Klopp can still put out a very strong team, happy days.
  • Just reading that Coutinho and Salah are out for this game, our two best players, this is a worry although Mane looks to be getting up to speed and so too Lallana. I've made the changes accordingly, brought Milner and Chamberlain in, think this team will be pretty close to what Klopp picks.
  • It's almost impossible to predict the team for this game. Given rotation has been the name of the game recently I would expect Matip, Robertson, Milner and Firmino to return. Does anyone know if Henderson is available? He was supposed to be doing running last week but I'm not sure he has joined full training yet. Mane and Salah will be in Africa today so I'm not sure if they will be considered as starters. Salah may not have recovered from his injury anyway. The other imponderable is whether VVD will be ready to start or be on the bench. Everton have Bolassie back from injury since we last played them and he has caused us problems in the past but a slightly more offensive Everton might just suit us. I think it will be tight game with perhaps just a single goal deciding it - hopefully for us.
    • Hendo is still unavailable as far as i can see, he's not mentioned anywhere for a return tomorrow night.
  • It wouldn't make sense for Barca to make a bid for Coutinho now, they have a 9 point lead in their league so they don't need him to win it and he doesn't qualify to play in the champs league. On the other hand its a WC year and Coutinho has a top 4, FA cup and champs league to play for. A summer move makes more sense
    • Makes no sense at all Red but apparently Barca and Liverpool officials have met to discuss the transfer, whether it happens now or the summer remains to be seen but it looks like if they can agree terms it will happen now.

Uncle commented on Uncle's blog post Liverpool's fixture list for 2018-19
"Yeah, I think the gods have smiled on us for once, regarding fixtures. The only possible banana skin I can see is that we play three of the 'big six' over the Christmas period so if we have any injury problems at that point it could be tough going.…"

"Sorry but no change in my opinion i'm afraid. Karius has been making mistakes since he joined and only for the even worse migs he would never have got the no.1 jersey, neither keeper is good enough to be LFC's no.1 keeper, no.2 maybe. We simply need…"

"Karius was treated for the impact on the pitch and was given the all clear to continue. However, experts are saying such a quick assessment during the match couldn't possibly take into account all the forms of concussion the brain can sustain and Ka…"

"Yeah, like i said, more to stop Salah than hurt him i feel. i'm not liking all that voting BS to have Ramos retrospectivly banned for it, a pure sign of sour grapes imo, we'll get revenge on him and Madrid in next seasons CL if we meet.
