Everton, 03-03-19, PL (A)

Derby time and can't wait for this one after our drubbing of watford, great performance that but we need 10 more like it starting at the toffee's. It doesn't look like Firimno will be ready, maybe on the bench but no worries i feel, Origi stepped up and done very well against the Hornets so if Bobby's not ready Origi could start his 2nd game in a row.

Back 5 picks itself in Alisson, Arnold, Matip, VVD and Robbo, Mane and Salah up front of course with either Bobby/Origi. My midfield would have to have Fabinho, Wijnaldum and Keita. Fabinho is undroppable right now as is Wijnaldum in my opinion and Keita needs the game time and is starting to show good form, give him a start in a derby and lets see what he can do.

                                                            Alisson

                                               Arnold   Matip  VVD  Robbo

                                               Keita     Fabinho   Wijnaldum

                                                   Salah     Origi   Mane

Maybe Klopp will choose Hendo over Keita which would be fine as hendo is in good form also. I think the derby is one game where form normally goes out the window but i'm a lot more confident of a win here after our showing against Watford. Best of luck RedMen.

  • This team is frustrating the hell out of me, we put in a performance like we did against Watford and then we play as shite as we did today, no way are we winning this Lge, simply not showing any fight for it.
    • I find this result harder to take than the United game because at least against Everton we had more than enough chances to win. The Salah of last season would've got a hat-trick today, the opportunities were there. We just had to get one goal and Everton would've been forced to take risks, not converting chances cost us.
      • Some talk of a falling out between Shaqiri and Klopp, might explain why Klopp is not using him. I don't understand why Keita is not getting more game time either, people questioning Klopp's substitutions lately, have to say i agree, Caragher is one of them.
        • I was also surprised that it was Milner who came on as sub and not Keita. Henderson, Milner, Fabinho and Wijnaldum offer much the same (albeit Fabinho offers more class) while either Shaqiri or Keita offer a bit more in an attacking sense. One ray of hope is that Oxlade-Chamberlain is expected to return for the U23's this week and though he may take a while to get up to speed he could be important in the final few games. We need Salah to return to form quickly and to get that front 3 working together again. At least the defence have gone 5 without conceding so that part of the team is performing well giving us a platform going forward.
          • I can kind of see what Klopp was thinking putting Milner on - Wijnaldum had been anonymous and Everton were getting back into the game after making their own substitutions, he probably wanted to firm up the midfield as, with nine games left, it was better to come away with something rather than nothing. It's the Lallana substitution I'm struggling to understand when there were more natural finishers on the bench. I don't know whether Lallana was given specific instructions to hold the ball higher up the pitch as the game was rather end to end, or maybe he'd been told to get the ball into Firmino. Klopp clearly saw some kind of logic to what he was doing, unfortunately it isn't quite so obvious to the rest of us.
  • Recent derby matches have been rather tame but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit more niggle this time given the club's respective positions in the league and the fact this is the one chance for Everton to put a spanner in our title hopes. I also wouldn't be at all surprised to see Henderson or Milner, or even both, starting this match as the first half could be rather physical. Given it's unlikely Firmino will start I wouldn't mind seeing Origi out wide and Mane in the centre again, it's an arrangement that seems to work and it's something opponents probably haven't prepared for.
  • I have a feeling Klopp will go with Henderson as the skipper understands what Derby matches are all about. Otherwise the team above seems likely unless Firmino is fit to start. Otherwise Origi on the left and Mane up front worked well on Wednesday so I would expect the same again. If we can come out of this week-end still ahead of City I will start to believe again. There are plenty of tough matches to come but we play the better teams at home after this one.
    • Yeah, i think Hendo will start as well, he may very well go with the same team as against Watford which as we know was excellent, this would mean Milner starting as well.

"I'm not convinced another central defender is a top priority though a replacement for Lovren would not go amiss.  More important is a full back especially as cover for Robertson.  Adam Lewis has been mentioned as possibly moving up from the U23's bu…"

I heard there is a debate on the question "Does LFC need another defender?"  My question is why is there a debate about an obvious need.  We needed one last summer when I brought up the fact that except for VVD, all our CBs can be considered walking…

There's been some subtle, but potentially important, rule changes since the last Champions League final. Each team gets to name a 23 man squad and they can pick their substitutes from any of the 12 players not chosen in the first 11. 3 substitutes…"
