City, 03-01-19, PL (A)

Time for the big game, could it be a title decider, not for me, we can afford to lose and still win the lge, of course we want to keep that winning mentality going, last thing we need now is a knock to our confidence but i just can't see it happening, i think we'll beat city and go on to lift the title.

The midfield as always is so hard to predict but i'm tempted to go for a less attacking midfield and more of a holding/defensive one and hence why i'm putting Hendo and Fabinho in alongside Wijnaldum, all 3 have been excellent recently although Fabinho can be hot and cold. I'm twixed between Arnold or Clyne for RB but think i'll hedge for Arnold who's better at getting up and down the flank i feel. I desperately want to start Shaqiri but who of the front 3 do you take out, if i was forced to choose it would be Mane, Salah and Firmino are on fire right now so they deffinitely start or maybe take Wijnaldum out and start Shaqiri, either i would be happy with as their in great form right now.

                                                     Alisson

                                    Arnold   Lovren   VVD   Robertson

                                      Hendo    Fabinho   Wijnaldum

                                         Salah     Firmino    Mane

Like i said, i'd love Shaqiri to get a start here but if the team Klopp puts out is similar to the above i'll be happy. This game is a great chance to put this title to bed i feel and maybe Klopp will think the same and play a more attacking team and i'd be quite happy with that as well. The very best of luck RedMen.       PS.     Happy New Year Gents, have a great night whatever you do!

                  • I don't see another full back coming in. I think Clyne's move is to give him game time and get him up to full fitness so he can challenge Trent next season. Hoever is very promising but he's only 16. Maybe in a couple of years he'll be challenging Trent but its a bit early yet. Its the same with Lewis on the left who is good offensively but his defending needs to improve a lot before he can be considered a replacement for Moreno.
  • I'm not overly concerned about the defeat, chances are it was going to happen at some stage, it's how we bounce back that concerns me now. We have a run of 5 Lge games now after wolves in the FA cup, which are all very winnable so i'm looking for 15 points over the next 4 weeks and that's what this team has to achieve in order to maintain our title challenge, sod what the others do, we have to take care of our own results from now on. I hope the players don't lose confidence in themselves after this defeat, this is where Klopp really earns his money by keeping their spirits high.
  • Two gripes I have are... I feel their first goal should have been ruled offside but then again Agüero was pushed by VVD and made a dive to claim a penalty. I guess he got back onside and scored. This can be debatable and Lovern wasn’t quick enough to prevent him from getting an extra yard of space. Kompany should have been sent off with that reckless challenge towards Salah but instead received a yellow card. The mind boggles with the Ref's decision.

Klopp had his team selection correct from the defense to midfield but the attack struggled and the substitutions were spot on. We just came up short in the end and it was a very tight close game.

From a neutral’s point of view it was a great game to watch. As an LFC Supporter I was disappointed with the result but overall it was a great game. I was hoping for a draw and it wasn’t to be. I hope it’s a lesson we can learn from here and go on a winnable run from there on.

Congratulations to both of you Mr and Mrs Warrior with your marriage and please do enjoy its spiritual blessings. If you ever get a chance please visit the Ataturk Olympic Stadium and you know its famous history there such as the 2005 CL Final.
    • Thanks very much Lanno, i really appreciate your words, i do feel blessed to have met and married my soulmate.
From what iv'e learned but not had confirmed, the Ataturk stadium has been rebuilt so the original one that we won the CL in in 2005 does not exist anymore, i heard this when i was in Istanbul last October so i didn't bother making the journey to it. I will check it out properly when i make the move and if it's still the original i will post some pics from there.
    • Yes, I thought Kompany was very lucky not to walk too. When we drew level I was hoping we'd see it out for a draw (or maybe get one on the break) but City proved why they're so hard to beat.
  • Well, it was close. Some online are grumbling that Klopp should've started with a more creative midfield but I disagree, I think he quite rightly went for a midfield which was most likely to nullify City's movement of the ball. If we'd attacked City full on they would have slaughtered us through the spaces we would have left open, I think Klopp was right to keep everything compact and only counter when the opportunity arose. A goal either way was always likely to win this game and that's how it turned out. If luck had gone our way we could've walked away with a draw and that would've been a decent result but it wasn't to be. I'm not too downhearted, the game was close enough as to suggest we could've got a better result on another day and we're still clear in the league. Mind you, Lovren's still all over the shop.
    • Hindsight is a wonderful thing, these people always use it when things go wrong. We've just lost a very close game 2-1 to what some consider the best team in Europe, no disgrace in my book, my worry now, as i stated above, is how they react.
      • City had to clear the ball from their goal mouth three times in that game, that's how close we came to getting a better result. It really was a game of fine margins and the fact it was so close suggests Klopp probably got it right tactically. To be honest, when I heard Fernandinho was fit to play I was fearful of the result, he makes such a difference to them (as was shown by the amount of games they lost without him). To restrict them to a one goal win at home with him in the team was actually not bad going and had luck been on our side we could've got at least a draw. That's why I'm not too fussed by the the result and I hope the players won't be either, it was a free hit and we just missed by inches. The important thing is that overall we're still leading, no matter what anyone else says.
  • Milner, Hendo and Wijnaldum in midfield so, it has been excellent when played, let's hope so for tonight, COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!!!!!
  • Congrats Warrior and all the best on your move. Will have a word with Jurgen and see what he can do about a wedding gift/farewell gift. Either the premier league title or the champs league or both and perhaps the FA cup thrown in as well.

"I'm not convinced another central defender is a top priority though a replacement for Lovren would not go amiss.  More important is a full back especially as cover for Robertson.  Adam Lewis has been mentioned as possibly moving up from the U23's bu…"

I heard there is a debate on the question "Does LFC need another defender?"  My question is why is there a debate about an obvious need.  We needed one last summer when I brought up the fact that except for VVD, all our CBs can be considered walking…

There's been some subtle, but potentially important, rule changes since the last Champions League final. Each team gets to name a 23 man squad and they can pick their substitutes from any of the 12 players not chosen in the first 11. 3 substitutes…"
