Chelsea, 26-09-18, LC (H)

Im expect wholesale changes here, i know it's very early in the season to be talking about resting players but do we really care if we progress in this competition, not me and besides we have chelsea in a far more important game next Saturday. My team for this game would be,

                                                           Mignolet

                                         Clyne     Matip    Gomez     Moreno

                                               Keita     Fabinho   Milner

                                                              Shaqiri

                                                        Sturridge    Solanke

A lot of changes but that's why we have such a big and quality squad and that's still a very strong team to put out. Klopp should rest as many players as possible imo, best of luck RedMen.

  • It would be easy to say 'the players didn't take it seriously as it's only the league cup' but I don't think that was the case at all. There was no shortage of effort from anyone in red, but there was a lack of sharpness from a number of players who'd played few minutes previously and a slight lack of cohesiveness from a group of players who, for many, had not played much together this season. When you put out an 'odds and ends' team like that and they come up against a player like Hazard, someone who is highly talented and has been playing regularly in the PL all season, it's not really surprising that they get undone by him. I don't care what anyone says, the first goal against us should never have stood and the VAR should've backed that up, if it had been interpreted correctly. With how both sides played over the ninety minutes either team could've won, we certainly weren't outplayed. It's a shame to miss out on a trophy but in the circumstances I don't think the side that was put out deserves major criticism, they came up against quality players that already had game time under their belts.
    • I agree with all your points Uncle. There were some positives from the performance despite the disappointing result. Shaqiri looked sharp, Fabinho grew into the game after looking a bit lost initially and I thought Clyne put in a solid performance. In the end it took a debatable goal and a piece of magic by Hazzard to beat us but it will be a different Liverpool team on Saturday and hopefully a different outcome.
      • It was going to take something special to outdo Sturridge's goal and fair play to Hazard he managed it. The game really should've gone to penalties and Mignolet has a pretty good record at those. It's water under the bridge now but I think, given the circumstances, the result could've easily been different on another day.
  • I wouldn't argue with your team Warrior though Lovren is fit again so he may get a start or a sub appearance. It looks like both teams will be making wholesale changes so the game will have little bearing on Saturday's PL match but it would be good to maintain the winning run. I'd like to see Keita taking responsibility and moving on to a new level that we know he is capable of. This could be an opportunity for him.
    • I Thought of putting Lovren in but wasn't sure if he was fit, if so then i would start him. Agree on Keita, we need him to up a couple of gears when he gets game time, top class player but needs to start showing it to get a starting slot.
      • No Moreno, he is still a game hex in his own right. Also Lovren instead of Matip. Solanke to start or half-time sub if we are winning?

"I'm happy with the white second strip.  White was the traditional colour back in the 60's and 70's, though I did like the yellow pinstripe that folowed.  I'm not sure about the dark blue shorts though.  I would prefer all white.  The third kit gives…"

"I think Grujic will be given a chance in pre-season to show if his improvement last season has brough him up to Liverpool level.  Wilson is now 22 and my worry for him is that he is a bit lightweight.  I prefer Kent though he doesn't score as many g…"

Liverpool has been a great about letting talented youngsters go permamently to another team if they have no real chance at first team futbol.  Yet in the cases of Grujic, Wilson and maybe Woodburn, we may be throwing the baby out with the bathwater!…
