Chelsea, 06-05-18 (A) PL

We should never be in the position whereby we need a point here and to beat Brighton or to win the CL in order to have CL football next season, should have been wrapped up long ago but that's Liverpool for ye, never the easy way, moan over.

The team again picks itself i feel which is not a good thing, we need to be very busy during this summers transfer window, i won't mention the players i'd like to see leave, you know who they are. We win the CL and i reckon we'll have our pick of the crop, even just getting to the final will do us no harm in this department. We need at least a point here as i feel we'll beat brighton at home next week so the same team that started against Roma should achieve that although we will need to play a lot better than wednesday night.

                                                              Karius

                                        Clyne      Lovren   VVD   Robertson

                                          Milner        Hendo      Wijnaldum

                                            Salah        Firmino    Mane

No need for any changes, Klopp can give them monday off to rest as we don't play again for a full week, anyone would think they just played in a manic, exausting CL semi final in Rome :) best of luck RedMen.

  • Fatigue has obviously caught up with them, they've looked knackered at times in the last few games, that said, they have a full week to prepare for the Brighton game now so no excuses. It would be good if Klopp gave them a day or two off to recharge their batteries. How big is our last game now, i'm confident though that we can beat them and secure CL football for next season, of course i'd rather we done that by bringing big ears home this season.
  • It's hard to tell who's tired, who's out of form, or both. Not that Klopp's got many realistic choices for rotation at the moment anyway. It's just a case of one last push to get over the line, although we don't need anymore players getting injured. A rousing Anfield atmosphere wouldn't go amiss.
  • Tired or not, they must have an all or nothing attitude for BHA. They just surprised ManUre and we need all 3 points. We don't want the anxiety of needing to win CL in order to qualify for next years tournament.
  • It was entirely predictable that we would put in a flat performance yesterday after the exertions of the last 10 days. In the end the game came down to who scored first. After Chelsea scored they could sit back, play deep and look to catch us on the break (which they failed to do). So we are in the same position as last season requiring a win from our last home game. At least we have a full week to recover while Brighton have a game in mid-week so we will have no excuses.
  • Down to the Brighton game so or of course winning the CL. What a potential horrible 90 minutes for us next sunday, i will never pray for an early goal as much as i will then.
  • Klopp said we've got three cup finals between now and the end of the season which goes to show how he sees the games against Chelsea and Brighton, I just hope the players feel the same way. Winning or drawing this match would help relieve the pressure on the Brighton match which would be a real bonus, otherwise the pressure steadily increases to the next match and if we don't get a result there the pressure ratchets right up for the CL final - the last thing Klopp will want. Basically, it's pretty important we get something against Chelsea. I agree that the only realistic change is putting Clyne in for Arnold, Clyne could also do with the game time to help sharpen up before the CL final.
  • A draw will do and we have a better goal difference than Chelsea. If we get this point then we have next season's CL to look forward and the squad can relax over the next few weeks with their preparations for the final.
  • It's not quite as big a job to get CL football next year as you have said Warrior. A point at Chelsea and they cannot catch us because of our much superior goal difference. Even if we lose, a win over Brighton will be enough. If all else fails we will still have CL football if we win the final but nobody wants to rely on that. I would rest Trent A-A and play Clyne. If Clyne can get a bit of game time between now and the end of the season there would be a case for playing him in the final with Trent as a very handy substitute to increase our options off the bench. otherwise we have to play our strongest team and hope they are not too tired after Wednesday.
    • Totally agree about Clyne mate, Arnold was very nervous in the semi so we can imagine what he'd be like starting the final, if we can get Clyne up and running against Chelsea and Brighton and he plays well with no injury issues then i would definitely start Clyne in the final.
I forgot about our superior goal difference over Chelsea which is like an extra point so yeah, maybe not as difficult as i thought to assure ourselves of CL football for next season. Still should have been done and dusted long ago but we should be ok, especially after we bring old big ears home :)

"Agree, i'm sure Klopp is working on getting them top quality, experienced players in this summer, looks like Fekir is a done deal, i know nothing about him but everybody seems to be raving about him so him and Kieta could be a great start for us in…"

"Our bench wouldn't look too bad were it not for the injuries. However, even if everyone was fit we wouldn't have experienced cover for the front 3 or a really creative midfielder and these are priority for sorting in the close season."

"Hopefully next season our team won't be as straight forward to pick, we badly need a much better bench of which i'm sure Klopp is working on. I hope Madrid keep going with the disrespectful comments, it'll only add more fire in our players like you…"

"I think your team is a certainty barring any last minute injuries. The noises coming out of Madrid are very disrespectful and hopefully this will fire us up even more than normal in a big match. Madrid will be the favourites and rightly so but on ou…"

Quick word about a program that's on tonight, channel 4 at 10clock, a documentary on Salah, his upbringing in Egypt and his football career, should be facinating.
