Champions Lge Final v Spurs, 01-06-19 (Madrid)

Here it is folks, the CL final, can we end a fantastic season with old big ears, god knows we deserve silverware after the season we've just had but of course spurs will have something to say about it, their looking for their first european cup and will be well up for this but i'm hoping our heartbreak in this final last season will spur us on to victory which i think we'll get, onto the team.

Big blow today of the news that Kieta is ruled out, i'm sure he's devastated, he was really starting to show his quality at the end of the season so he's a big miss in my opinion. As far as i can see we've no other injury concerns to our main first 11 so my team for the final would be,

                                                                 Alisson

                                                   Arnold    Matip   VVD   Robbo

                                                   Hendo    Fabinho   Wijnaldum

                                                      Salah      Firmino   Mane

I think this is the best we can put out with what we have available, i would have put kieta in in place of wijnaldum but like i said klopp has ruled him out today. Spurs are a great team to watch and at time's can play fantastic football, they will be tough opponents but i think we'll edge this one out like in our Lge games against them. I'm going for a 3-1 victory, it could go to extra time but hopefully not the dreaded pen shootout, the very best of luck RedMen.

  • I think I have calm down from being high from our Champions League victory and a fantastic result. The game may not have been a spectacular event but we got over the line. I would think Klopp got the tactics and balance correct with this one because it was so humid in Madrid even though the kick off was a 9 PM local time. So we played defensively and claimed two goals with a clean sheet.

Another thought may have appeared that we’re going to go out on attack but the 21 seconds into the game took a different twist that no-one saw it coming with the penalty. Its possible Klopp changed the tactics to defensive to see out the game and use counter-attack. The substitutions were perfect on with the introductions of Origi (for Firmino), Milner (for Wijnaldum) and Gomez (for Mane). We have the sixth and that all matters to me regardless how the game went.
  • The line up you have posted is the team Klopp is starting with.
  • Your not on your own guys, just started to watch the build-up, getting very nervous now, please god we can do it, COME ON YOU REDS!!!!!!!!!
    • 0-2! WE DID IT. Wasted a lot of chances but WE DID IT! Held Spurs to no goals. Way to win Reds! Wait is over Warrior, we're the Champs of Europe again. Writing a lot more tomorrow. Sage signing off. YNWA.
      • I really didn't enjoy watching that game but I certainly enjoyed the result. I said after last years CL final that the only way to get over the disappointment was to come back this season and win it and that's exactly what the team did. The game itself was a bit of a non-event and I felt we were crying out for a creative player who could put his foot on the ball and get our passing game started. However, the only thing that matters is the result and the players and the management team fully deserve their success. Having got this first trophy out of the way it will be a weight lifted from the club and hopefully we can go on and add to it over the coming years. Now I'm looking forward to meeting my Everton and United friends!
        • Oddly, after the initial joy of winning. all I felt was an immense sense of relief that the long wait for a major trophy was over. We now had the silverware to go along with the good feelings generated by this wonderful season. One more point and we would have won the double. But I am greatly satisfied with the Champions League win. I just wish that were were going to be traveling to Asia next Jan for (now extinct) the World Club tournament.
        • I found that a very strange game to watch and relief rather than excitement was my main emotion on hearing the final whistle. Klopp said in his post-match press conference that his sides had played attractive football in his previous six finals and lost so I wonder whether his instruction to the team was not to give Spurs any opportunity for a quick counter, just keeps risks to a minimum. If so, that combined with the three week gap between games, which meant both teams had lost their sharpness, made for a pretty stuffy game. But, let's be honest, for both teams the main objective was never entertainment, just the title and I'm so happy Liverpool finally got what they deserved out of this season, justice was done.
  • I think I'm more nervous about this one than any of the previous finals. Its partly because of the expectations that go with being favourite, partly because its another English team and partly because this team and Klopp so deserve silverware. Oh, and because my Everton and United friends will no longer be able to claim that Liverpool are "bottlers" if we come away with number 6. Come on you Reds!!!
    • I'm glad it's not just me, I'm a nervous wreck right now.
  • I think that's the team I would have picked even if Keita had been fit. However, I think next season either Keita or Oxlade-Chamberlain will become first choice. We have every advantage in this game. We finished 26 points ahead of Spurs, we beat them twice in the PL, we don't have speculation about our manager's future, we have experienced a previous final just last year, our preparation has included warm weather training which could be very important given the likely temperatures and I would expect our fans to out-sing theirs. Of course it is a one off game and anything can happen but hopefully our bad luck in last year's final won't be repeated and the team gets its due reward for an amazing season.
