Brighton, 13-05-18 (H) PL

Can't believe the Lge season is over, how quickly did that go. I also can't believe that we're in a possition whereby we need at least a point here to secure 4th but that's where we find ourselves.

As always i feel the team picks itself with the exception of the RB position, i'm twixed between Arnold and Clyne but i'm going to choose Clyne as i think Klopp will start him in the CL final, so the team i expect to see is,

                                                 Karius

                             Clyne     Lovren   VVD    Robertson

                                 Milner      Hendo    Wijnaldum

                                  Salah      Firmino   Mane

Hopefully we will have a far better squad to choose from after this summers transfer window, i would hope we don't see the likes of Lovren, Karius and Wijnaldum as starters next season, i love Milner and Hendo but i think we can do better but they, along with the others, are great options to have on our bench. These players have stood us well this season and fairplay to them, they have two cup finals coming up, lets hope their all on their A game in both, best of luck RedMen.

        • We have been renowned this season for the speed of our counterattacks, our front three have scored 90 goals between them, a phenomenal figure, and still people are saying we're not getting the ball forward quickly enough. Many of those goals have come via the fullbacks, Trent and Robertson, and that has required Henderson to pass the ball out wide at the right times. Like Rodgers before him Klopp is asking Henderson to play like a quarterback, spreading the play. Liverpool use the whole pitch, not just a narrow section in the middle, and that means someone has to select the path of attack and instigate the movement. That person in Klopp's system is usually Henderson. If you wanted him to belt the ball forward as soon as he received it I'm sure he could do it all day long and Liverpool would be a less effective side. At the end of the day it doesn't matter how you or I believe how Henderson should play, what's important is that Henderson plays how Klopp believes he should play. I haven't once, not once, heard Klopp criticise how Henderson plays, which is rather odd if he's playing as badly as is to be believed. Or maybe it's because Klopp knows Henderson is just doing what he's being asked to.
          • No I'm not saying he must boot the ball forward every time, not at all, you have misunderstood me but there have been a few instances when he could have reacted faster. We dropped a lot of points to lower teams unneccesarily because they had time to get 11 men in front of the ball. Hendo shouldn't be the only instigator there are a couple more on the pitch and they must all contribute. Quite frankly he reminds me of a robot at times
            • Could Henderson have reacted quicker in some instances? Of course, but then so could Lovren have made certain tackles he missed or Mane have passed the ball instead of shooting. I'm not arguing Henderson is perfect, especially considering the injuries he's had this season, what I'm saying is that the way he plays is heavily defined by Klopp. In many cases the issue hasn't been allowing eleven men to get back behind the ball, it's been breaking up the eleven men in the first place. Klopp's approach is to patiently move the ball around the pitch, pulling players out of position, waiting for spaces to open up or for opponents to make mistakes and Henderson plays a major part in this tactic. Does it always work? No, some teams sit deep, rigidly keep their shape and are very hard to break down but the limitations are more to do with the tactic rather than the players.

"I don’t recall Allison making a single save the whole game except for one corner which he caught late in the game so it’s almost like he had a bit of an off day. Every team seems to up their game when they play Liverpool and it’s going to get a lot…"

"That was a funny old game. Palace always seem to unsettle us somehow, it might be because they're so quick on the wings. Poor Milner, he was always going to be up against it with Zaha and he was diving in on tackles all afternoon. The red wasn't muc…"

"I've been reading Palace are having an injury crisis much like our own so hopefully they'll turn up below par. I'll be interested to see whether Klopp goes with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 for this fixture. It seems he starts with a 4-3-3 against the stronge…"
