Bournemouth 7-12-19 (A)

Last Wednesday night was a great one for us. Now we head down to the south east coast with a difficult game and their coach does make it harder for visiting teams at their stadium. I expect Alisson to return between the sticks and the same defence (we used against Everton). The midfield is going to be an interesting with the choices and maybe the attack also too. This could be the line-up:

Alisson

TAA – Lovern - VDD - Robertson

Henderson - Oxlade Chamberlain - Milner

Salah - Firmino - Mane

Best of luck Redmen.

  • That was the most comfortable match we have played all season. Even though it took 35 minutes to get a breakthrough it always looked like it was only a matter of time. None of the 4 players who scored against Everton started the game yet 3 different players scored our goals making it now 16 different scorers this season already. I had a feeling Keita would get a start and he certainly took his chance despite being a bit careless early on. None of our other midfielders can link midfield and attack the way he does. I also liked the way he scored with a scoop past the keeper with the outside of his right foot - a nice bit of improvisation. I was also pleased to see Curtis Jones get a 20 minute debut in the PL. I saw his debut for the U18's as a 15 year old and was convinced straight away that he was a special player. The only downside was the injury to Lovren. I am happy with Gomez partnering VanDijk but with Matip and Fabinho already out our options at centre back are becoming very limited. Hopefully Klopp is right that Lovren 's injury is a minor one.
  • Another good team performance. Great to see Salah get a goal and an assist, I think his confidence needed that. While I still think Ox is more effective in the centre he played better in the wide role than his last outing there and the control for his goal was excellent. Keita looked more up to speed than I expected and Klopp must be pleased with him getting a goal and an assist after such a long while. I'm still not convinced with Gomez at rightback but I thought he looked much more comfortable when he reverted to centreback, he may well be playing there if Lovren doesn't recover in time. I thought Henderson was great too, his passing and shielding of the back four especially. I was a bit surprised with how unadventurous Bournemouth were, they very quickly sat back into their half. I think our recent form had made their minds up to play conservatively even before the whistle was blown. All in all, a good result before we go to an important fixture at Salzburg and we finally got that clean sheet.
  • Here's the team:

Alisson, Gomez, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Henderson, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Keita, Firmino, Salah.

Subs: Adrian, Mane, Shaqiri, Origi, Jones, Alexander-Arnold, Elliott.

I didn't see Trent being rested, I thought it'd be Robertson, and I'm not totally convinced with Gomez playing at rightback. Mane being dropped is a big call and Ox in his place, out wide, is a bit iffy, Ox hasn't really shone in that position in the past. But we shall see, Klopp normally gets it right.
    • Good see Keita back and getting a goal. Shaq didn’t get many minutes but he looked happy so it bodes well for December. Hope we don’t have a serious centre back issue with Lovren going off
  • After the last match I'm hesitant in trying to predict a line-up, what with Klopp's use of the whole squad I wouldn't be surprised if Doris the tea lady was picked at fullback. However, if I was pushed I'd say I could see Robertson being rested and replaced by Milner or Gomez. Robertson's been carrying a knock and Klopp will want him as fit as possible for Salzburg so I have my doubts whether he'll take part in this game (unless his injury dramatically improves, of course). If Mane looked tired I'd say there was a case for resting him but he doesn't appear fatigued and he's a real driving force right now, that's why I think it'll be the normal front three for this match. I expect Henderson to play at number six but the other midfielders are harder to predict. One will probably be Ox, as he didn't play against Everton, and the other may well be Keita, if he's finally ready. Klopp might choose one of those two to accompany Wijnaldum, for extra reliability. Having said all that, Origi, Shakiri and Lallana can all make a case for playing as well so, in all honesty, I haven't a clue who Klopp will pick.
  • This could be the game to reintroduce Keita. He should be fully recovered from his injuries and illness by now. Having seen Origi and Shaqiri step up on Wednesday he should be desperate to make his own impression. Alisson will return in goal while Henderson Ox Salah and Firmino should also return. There is a case for resting Mane and keeping Origi in but it is very difficult to rest your outstanding player when he is in such a rich vein of form. We have won the last two at their ground 4-0 and a similar result would be very welcome, especially the nil bit. They are capable of upsetting the bigger teams but I don't think they will be strong enough to deny us the points.
