Bournemouth, 09-02-19, PL (H)

How important has this game become after a disappointing result against the hammers. I'm reading that Lovren and Arnold could be in contention but maybe not to start, i think we may see Milner kept at RB and Matip to partner VVD. Fabinho to start alongside Hendo and one of either Keita/Wijnaldum, usual front 3.

                                                                Alisson

                                              Milner    Matip   VVD   Robertson

                                                Hendo    Fabinho   Keita/Wijaldum

                                                 Salah      Firmino    Mane

This team needs to start showing it's metal after a poor performance against Westham. I feel we have to go the rest of the season unbeaten and win at least 10/11 of our remaining games to win this title, a very tall order if our recent displays are anything to go by. Spurs and city have the bit between their teeth now while we're feeling the pressure, our lads need to up the gears now for these remaining 13 games. Best of luck RedMen.

  • Haven't seen the game but reading around it was a great performance which made for pleasant reading. Maybe one of you guys can fill me on the game, cheers.
    • You couldn't have asked for more of a transformation. The players looked sharper and more determined from the very start and the crowd were really up for it too. The defence was solid right across the back line and Alisson cut out his occasional lapses. The midfield three were fantastic - Fabinho did everything a number six should, Wijnaldum was playing more advanced than usual and his connecting play and touch were spot on, and Keita was stronger on the ball and in the tackle with some nice passing around the box. As for the front three, Mane continued his goalscoring streak (he really has kept us afloat at times this season). There was some wonderful play between Salah and Firmino, one piece that ended in a goal, and all three goals were very well taken. Overall, I'd say everything looked more focused, everyone was switched on, and the tempo was more like we're used to. The only caveat is that we were up against a Bournemouth side that have a poor record away from home but you can only beat what's put in front of you. The main thing was that the attitude on the pitch and in the stands was much more productive.
      • That's an excellent summary. I thought Wijnaldum showed what he is capable of doing in a more advanced role. We have lacked a midfielder getting into the box but both he and Keita were doing that yesterday. Keita was much improved and for once seemed to be on the same wavelength as his colleagues. He does need to practice his shooting though. I gather the team will be off for warm weather training again now before two season defining games against Bayern and United.
      • Thanks for the info uncle, very much sounds like we're back on track, fingers crossed that's us for the last 12 Lge games and who knows. Like you say, it's the attitude of the players and fans that's so important, we have to do our part as much as the players. We know the atmosphere will be amazing on wednesday night but how much of a confidence boost would it be for the team if we beat munic.
  • Eddie Howe is one of the few managers who usually tries to have a go against Liverpool so this should be more to our liking. The mood coming from the team is one of unity and resolve so I'll be very surprised if we see a flat display. There's also been a collective desire from the various fan groups for the Anfield fans to be a bit more uplifting regardless of the score, to try and reduce the nervousness, so the atmosphere against Bournemouth should be lively, in theory. If all goes to plan I reckon there'll be an Arnold-Matip-VVD-Robertson back line, which should be fine, meaning we have more options in midfield. I wonder whether Klopp will go with a 4-3-3 because he shouldn't need to overly protect his defence and I don't think we've played our best in that formation this season (admittedly, I don't have the stats at hand to back that up). I'd rather see him go with a 4-2-3-1 and really play on the front foot, which is what we do best. With just the two midfielders we then have the choice of Fabinho, Henderson, Milner and Wijnaldum, and Lallana, Keita and Shaqiri can either play in midfield or in the attacking three. I just feel 4-2-3-1 would fit the circumstances better than 4-3-3, but then I'm not Klopp, of course.
  • Alexander-Arnold, Henderson and Wijnaldum trained yesterday. If they are all fit I would play Arnold definitely then either Henderson or Wijnaldum in midfield along with Fabinho and Shaqiri. A lot depends on how fit the injured players are. Lovren is not yet back in training but there is a chance of him being ready for Bayern. This is a must win game with away games coming up against United and Everton. I will be looking not just for 3 points but for a much improved performance. Bournemouth will be under strength without Wilson, Brooks and Clyne and they don't pick up many points away from home. They also try to play their football rather than parking the bus so we have no excuses if we mess this one up.

"I agree a good run in the CL, if not winning it, helps to attract players and ups the revenue but i would say winning a prem Lge also has that affect and we haven't won one yet so that's why i say all out for the Lge title. The premier Lge being the…"
