Bayern Munic, 13-03-19, CL (A)

Do or die time in the CL, i think the balance is tipped in our favour here because of the away goal rule and seen that, hopefully, we have our scoring boots back on. As usual it's the midfield that is hard to predict but i think Fabinho is pretty much nailed on to start, the other two positions are up for grabs, so much so i can't choose so i'll leave it up to you guy's, be intersting to see who picks who.

                                                                Alisson

                                                   Arnold   Matip   VVD   Robbo

                                                          ?      Fabinho    ?

                                                          Salah    Firmino   Mane

I really feel sorry for Shaqiri, he simply can't get a look in for whatever reason, me being of a suspious nature i have my theorys as to why. Keita is another who's not getting a lot of game time, are Hendo, Milner and Wijnaldum really playing that well as to keep them out??? Anyway, best of luck RedMen

  • It wasn't the most fluent performance (too many misplaced passes) but to come away from a game at one of the European elite with a 3-1 win was a massive result and will give us confidence in both Europe and the PL going forward. It was a brilliant defensive performance not just from the back four but from the whole team. I only remember Alisson making one save and that was from a long range free-kick. Robertson's late booking was frustrating. Let's hope we don't draw Barca in the quarters. Moreno or Milner up against Messi doesn't bear thinking about.
  • That was easier than I thought it would be. With Henderson going off early and Matip scoring an own goal I was starting to think it wasn't going to be our night but the second half performance was the best I've seen in a long time. We nailed it tactically and played to the final whistle (none of that easing off towards the end). It wasn't really a surprise that Mane and VVD were to be the players to score, they've been the most consistent high performers all season. To be fair, the whole team played well and that has rarely been the case away from home in Europe so far. So, a big hurdle jumped with the only negatives being a possible injury to Henderson and Robertson being suspended for the next game (will Klopp bring back Moreno...?). Up the Reds.
    • This was a game Klopp had planned from the beginning until it went wrong after Henderson’s injury and made a quick decision to replace him with Fabinho. I believe Fabinho may have been a choice for the second half or left out as being rested for the Sunday game against Fulham.

The first half it was a struggle due the rhythm was misaligned after Henderson was replaced and we held out 1-1 in that half. Klopp got it tactically correct for the second half and from what I was seeing we were the better team in the end.

Mane was superb tonight with both goals taken and VVD as usual delivered the goods from the set-piece. It was a silly challenge from Robbo and I am not concerned about him missing the first leg in the next round... Milner is there to take over... Moreno won’t have a place as a left back. My concern how serious is Henderson’s injury and will he be fit for the next game. Doesn't matter and bring on the Quarter Finals and Up The Reds!
  • The team's in:

    Alisson

    Arnold-Matip-VVD-Robertson

    Hendo-Wijnaldum-Milner

    Salah-Firmino-Mane

I'm not overly surprised Klopp has started with Henderson and Milner but I didn't think he'd bench Fabinho.
    • I'm also been surprised Fabinho has been left out though he hasn't been quite as effective in the last few games. The team is almost the same as the CL Final just Alisson for Karius and Matip for Lovren.
  • With Keita out with something minor I guess we have to agree with Uncle’s reasoning although Klopp might just surprise us with Shaquiri and or Lallana. Anyway it’s my birthday today so to get thru would be the best present and am feeling good about this game. We can do it and am expecting a goal or two from Mo.
    • Happy birthday Red, hope we get the right result for ye!!!!!!!!
      • Thanks Warrior, my intuition was spot on except it was Mane who got 2 goals but who the hell cares who scored as long as we win it
  • Keita's out injured, I'm afraid (nothing serious). I would guess it'll probably be Wijnaldum and Henderson in midfield, although it's not beyond the realms of possibility Lallana has played himself into contention. Bayern have won their last two matches 6-0 and 5-1 so it's fair to say they've got their shooting boots on. At least we've got VVD back, I think we're going to need him. I think it'll be a more open game than the Anfield leg (Bayern aren't going to play for another 0-0 and penalties) which hopefully will work in our favour. What I fear is Bayern getting an early goal, if we let them build up momentum one could quickly become two or three. We've got the ability to beat Bayern, though, as long as we convert our chances this time. It was a shame the U19's went out on penalties.
  • Where do I begin with this? In this season’s Champions League our away form has been poor that ended up with three defeats and we just scored two goals against PSG and we ended up with a defeat in that game.

Bayern had a poor start in their season with the Bundesliga and did well during the CL groups. They have managed to turn their season around in the League and now are strong side to continue the 2018/19 campaign. CL football is a different area and this is where we need to get our shit together and try to win the game even a score draw will takes us through.

The GK and DF is more likely to be used unless Klopp sticks Milner instead as right back and Arnold came off with a shoulder issue against Burnley or was it a precaution to save him for Bayern. The MF is a hard one to decide. I would throw in Keita due to his experience against a German team from the Bundesliga and add in Henderson for the other name on the list. The front three need to get their shooting boots on.

    Some team selections here.

    Option #1

    Alisson

    Arnold Matip VVD Robbo

    Henderson Keita Fabinho

    Salah Firmino Mane

    Option #2:

    Alisson

    Fabinho* Matip VVD Robbo

    Henderson Keita Wijnaldum

    Salah Firmino Mane

*Option #2 depends on Arnold’s shoulder and match fitness

    Option #3

    Alisson

    Milner Matip VVD Robbo

    Henderson Fabinho Wijnaldum

    Salah Firmino Mane

I could go all night with options but the most important thing is that we need to get the result and my apologies for a long ass post. Hope we will go through it’s all I ask for.

"I think two things need to happen, Mane needs to quit being a bit of a drama queen and Salah needs to pass the bloody ball a bit more. Not too concerned about this but Klopp does need to get a grip of it asap, we all know today's footballers are spo…"

"I was a bit surprised when I saw this diagram, I'd have thought if anything the figures would've been the other way around as Salah's assists stats are usually very good. I'm not particularly worried about it as going by what Henderson and Milner ha…"

"Let's hope Mane doesn't see that chart!  Neither is on international duty over the next couple of weeks so they have plenty of time to make up."

This handy little diagram shows the chances created by each of the front three players for the other front three players in the Premier League since the start of the 2017-18 season. What's noticeable is that Mane's chance creation for Salah is getti…

"Yes Adrian deserves a mention. That was the first game he has started when he did nothing rash. He also made a couple of good saves even though he was a spectator for much of the game. So far he has proved a decent number two in the absence of Al…"
