Aston Villa 17-12-19 League Cup (A)

For 43 years I have been a supporter of this football club and I’d never imagine I will be watching both games taking place in 24 hours. While the first team is out gallivanting in Qatar and I have no idea what team the stand in Gaffer Neil Critchley is going to put out against Villa. This will be a struggle and I would need a hand from you folks. If the formation is going to be 4-3-3 and the team is:

Kelleher

Lewis -Hoever - Van den Berg - Larouci

Elliott - Kane - Chirivella

? - Brewster - ?

Lewis and Larouci are both left backs and if Williams was left behind I would have put him in at right back. Brewster may not be match fit. I am stuck with the forward line. Aston Villa will put out a strong team and I am not expecting for us to win but it would be a boost if we can win this one and best of luck redmen.

  • The youngsters can be proud of their efforts. It was lack of experience and physicality rather than skill that cost us the game. I was sorry we couldn't get on the score-sheet but it wasn't through lack of trying but rather that Villa's keeper played a blinder. Remember we have a whole team of youngsters who probably would have played if available - 4 injured , two in Qatar and at least five out on loan. Three of the players who featured are U18 regulars not U23 and two of those only moved up to U18's this season. Despite that they all contributed with Elliott , Kane and Hoever being the outstanding players. The fans also deserve praise for outsinging Villa all evening.
  • It was a valiant attempt which deserved to be more like 3-0 than 5-0, I thought the scoreline flattered Villa a bit. We passed the ball around well at times and had some chances but the difference in strength and experience told in the end. What was nice was that you could see Klopp's influence on how they play, they operated easily in his system. No-one did their prospects any harm and they certainly didn't let the club down.
  • Negative side to this was the score line. The positive side to this how the youngsters showed courage by refusing to drop their heads even they were conceding goals. We did very well in many great passes which was nice to see and we had 57% possession, 15 shots and 8 on target up against half of Villa’s regulars. It was a nice touch for Dean Smith and John Terry for entering the Liverpool dressing room after the match and congratulated the players for their effort.
  • This one is crazy for sure 2 games 2 continents 24 hours am sure the youngsters.m will give a good account of themselves. It’s an oppurnity they must grab
  • My Villa mate tells me that Villa will play a weakened team. However it is likely to be much more experienced than ours. Had Williams and Jones not travelled to Qatar we might have stood a outside chance but the best I am hoping for is a decent performance and a narrow defeat. Looking at the team above Lewis is still injured and Larouci and Brewster are doubts. Christie-Davis is likely to play in midfield but I don't know who will be right back, possibly Jack Walls. James Norris could play left back if Larouci is not fit and Leyton Stewart could play up front in place of Brewster. Louis Longstaff could also feature in attack (a Geordie lad but no relation of the two Longstaffs who play for Newcastle United). Let's hope they do themselves proud.
  • Any side Villa put out will no doubt be stronger than ours but given where they are in the league I can see Villa resting some of their important players, they can't really afford to lose them to a wayward tackle. This game is a bit of a free hit for the youngsters, if they win they'll be exalted, if they lose they were the underdogs anyway. All they have to do is give it their best shot and see what happens.
  • To be honest guys, i couldn't give a fiddlers flute for this comp, it's a competitive game for the youngsters, a chance for them to shine and nothing else. Of course i wish them the best of luck but if we go out no big deal, i for one certainly won't be disappointed.
