Arsenal 30-10-19 League Cup (H)

This game is not important for me because I have my eyes on the FIFA Club World Cup in December and if we get knocked out in this fixture which may be a blessing in disguise to help us with the remaining parts of our season and I do value the FA Cup more than this competition.

Matip is out for six weeks and appears VVD is carrying a knock (rumoured) so both players will not be featured. The first 11 line up should be very interesting and for the life of me I can’t decide who to put out but this would be my best choice or guess:

Kelleher

Gomez - Hoever - Lovern - Milner (Robertson)

Keita - Fabinho - Oxlade Chamberlain

Elliott

Firmino - Origi

I would prefer to have Adrian instead of Kelleher, there’s a decision between Milner and Robertson to cover the LB position, Lallana may take a place in the midfield instead of Keita or Ox, I would feature Fabinho in this game and drop him for the Villa game because he's one yellow card short from a one game suspension which would be against Man City, but I have no idea what team the Gaffer will put out for this game and I do expect Arsenal to put out a strong team against us since they are desperate for trophies. We have bigger fish to fry such as the PL, FIFA CWC, FA Cup, and CL. We’ll be rooting for a win and best of luck Redmen.

  • This was a crazy game and highly entertaining if it was a neutral had watched this. It reminded me of the 2001 UEFA Cup Final against Alaves and that was a crazy game too. Yes we were sloppy in many parts of the game but we found a way back to bring it to a penalty shoot-out. I was nice to have witnessed the young players stepped up to take their penalties and a great experience for them to learn from. Now we are hearing about the fixtures build up congestion between this cup competition and the FIFA Club World Cup which is a mess by the FA.
  • Looks like Keita may have done his thigh again, starting to lose faith in this guy, in the main he's been disappointing since he joined, is he going to be one of these players that comes to the PL with a big reputation but they fail, seems like it at the moment.
    • I've got to be honest, I thought Keita was awful in this game and I don't think he looked particularly interested in playing in it from the start. Let's put it this way, I wouldn't be surprised if his groin problem cleared up quickly for the next Premier League game. There's no doubt a fit and motivated Keita is an asset worth having but as of yet we've only seen flashes of that particular player.
      • Totally agree, i watched the game again and he was a gost in it, completely anonymous. I'm hoping it's just a case of he needs a run of games but i'm starting to have doubts about the guy, just maybe he's not cut out for the PL but like Huytonian says it might be a bit early to right him off, time will tell.
        • I may be mistaken but I thought Keita picked up an injury in the first minute of the game after a strong challenge on the left touchline. He was definitely feeling something immediately afterwards and if he was playing on with a niggle it might explain his muted performance. It may also have been a factor in him picking up a second injury that caused him to come off early in the second half.
          • Perhaps I'm getting cynical in my old age, I didn't realise he'd got a knock early on. He seems to have the physical resilience of Andy Carroll though which doesn't bode well.
    • I think its too early to write off Keita. Whether he will become an important player for Liverpool will depend very much on him overcoming his tendency to pick up injuries. I don't think there is much doubt that a fit and confident Keita could play a big part in the coming years. If the injuries continue however there is a danger that the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jones could squeeze him out of the reckoning. Its a pity he missed most of pre-season as it is difficult for players to reach a peak who have not benefited from that early preparation.
      • I would love to see an Ox, Fabinho and Keita as our regular midfield, Ox is well on his way to ousting one of the regulars but Keita has plenty of work to do, really hope he comes good. He has been cursed with injuries so lets hope that's behind him now.
  • I wasn't going to watch this game then I got a call from my elderly mother saying she'd bought a Sky pass to watch it so I went and watched it with my parents. They absolutely loved it, I'll have to apologise to the neighbours for the screams and shouts. The actual football was questionable - from both the kids and the oldies - but the desire to win was faultless. There were moments of brilliance and moments of shame (the defending) but as the penalties proved there is character throughtout the squad. Once certain players mature technically there should be some strong players coming into the first team.
  • What a crazy game, wasn't really bothered about the result but after been 3-1 and 4-2 down to come back and win it on pens is fantastic. Delighted for all the youngsters that got some first team action and what a time to get it. Hoping we can get the chance to knock manure out in the next round.

"It's definately having teething problems. I'm with Uncle here, not a conspiracy but incompetence. Hopefully it'll sort itself out in time but at least we're not the only club to have suffered."

"It seems Klopp has tweaked Henderson's tactics of late. In recent games he's been making runs towards the right side of the opponent's half, ahead of Trent, and I assume that's so he can either make a cross if he's got the ball or he can draw player…"

"If you go to this link on YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzQbT9iCb8E - you can see the best bits of play from just Wijnaldum, Henderson and Fabinho in the City game. The two things that jump out at you is just how much Wijnaldum and Hende…"
